Could very well be the steal of his 2018 draft year. Has elite skating abilities, his edge work reminds me of Matt Barzal lite as far as his skating is concerned, excellent offensive instincts both as a goal scorer and playmaker and has the ability get fans on the edge of their seats. In addition, he has an excellent two hundred foot game and is very responsible in all areas of the ice. He is a buzzsaw as far as his puck pursuit is concerned, I have said it before and I will say it again, think Hossa lite as far as his complete 200 foot game

I was fortunate enough to work for a Swiss Millionaire when the world juniors were held here in Vancouver so I saw Philipp live in every Swiss game for free and the seats were centre ice row 5

Work in progress, more later

Philipp Kurashev (born 12 October 1999) is a Swiss professional ice hockey center who is currently playing with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Kurashev was drafted 120th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.[1]
Contents

Kurashev played his junior hockey in the QMJHL for the Quebec Remparts. He played 183 regular season games and put up 179 points (69 goals) over 3 seasons. He also played 17 playoffs games, putting up 13 points (3 goals).
On 12 March 2019, Kurashev signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.[2] He reported to the Rockford IceHogs at the end of his junior season and made his professional debut on 5 April 2019.[3]
Prior to the 2020–21 campaign, with the North America season delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kurashev remained in Switzerland as he was loaned to NL club, HC Lugano, on 6 September 2020.[4] Kurashev made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks on January 15, 2021 against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Kurashev was named to Switzerland men's national team for the 2019 IIHF World Championship in Slovakia.[5]
Kurashev is the son of Russian former professional hockey player Konstantin Kurashev. He holds Swiss and Russian dual citizenship, and is fluent in English, German, and Russian.[6][7]

Go Kurashev. Looks to be a hell of a find in the 4th round. I have no idea what the f*** Pronman was looking at with him. I think Pronman hasn't watched him enough.
There's a reason Proman is a writer instead of an actual scout.

When Bob Mackenzie does his rankings it's based a lot more on reporting, so him reaching out to teams and basing his rankings on that.

Pronman styles himself a talent evaluator and the reality is given the number of prospects he can only give a cursery look to anyone not ranked in the top 50 or so.

I know, and that leads national writers to be super conservative. I hate that. Stick your neck out and grow a pair of gonads. Admit when you're wrong about a strong opinion and own up to it. Pronman used to do that and that's why I liked him. I can't stand how he's changed as the Athletic has grown as a company. I've been a subscriber since shortly after they launched.

Why do you keep talking about Pronman as if he has any idea wtf he's talking about? The guy is a moron. You're continually implying that he actually has a clue.

Because even though he was wrong often, he had his "hot take" opinions, similar to Keith Law in baseball. One of the reasons I like Keith Law in baseball is that he had strong opinions on certain players and if he was wrong, he'd write an article every now and then addressing how scouting can fail. Pronman did similar things in the early years of the Athletic, and I can't stand how national prospect writers in every sport are so damn conservative. Stick your neck out there for a guy you like/hate and explain why scouting is and always has been an inexact profession when you're wrong.

I don't expect a prospect writer to watch every prospect, but I do expect them to reach out to team scouts and find out that a guy like Kurashev can play rather than selling bullshit that he's a borderline prospect at all.

The last one Pronman wrote was his "how I missed on Puljujarvi" article in 2019.

He still believes in Nylander, FWIW.

I refuse to pay for The Athletic. Most of it is overrated.
Sox coverage is awesome. Fegan is excellent. Keith Law is there now as well, and I enjoy him.
I can't afford to pay for every service in sports writing that I want to though. I am starting to question if it is worth the price for just quality baseball coverage though. They're awesome there, but they lack elsewhere. I guess why I pay for them is that I could pay for some other baseball only site, or I could pay for the quality baseball coverage with the Athletic and still have access to their other sportswriters for the other leagues I follow.

I absolutely love the Kubalik-Strome-Kurashev line. Talk about 3 forwards whose strengths complement each other perfectly.

Such a solid third line on a contender! Unfortunately for this team, it may be the best line. It’s okay though, when Dach and Toews come back this line will be pushed down.

Kane’s line needs cover behind a true top line. Either that means Toews coming back with good line mates, or Dach taking over that role
