is Phil Kessel an upgrade over James Neal or not really?
1) who has a better slapshot
2) who has a better wristshot?
3) who is faster
4) better overall player

Phil Kessel is a much better player than James Neal and fills a need for a RHS on the PP, so yes?

Clearly Kessel is better.

Kessel has hit 37 goals and 80+ points playing with the likes of Tyler Bozak. Neal ain't ever going to do that with a guy like Bozak as his center.

Neal was on pace for 45 pts this year playing with Ribiero (a significantly more talented player than Bozak) and a rookie of the year candidate in Forsberg.

This question, it's bad.

I'm about as big a fan of Neal as there is, but Kessel's easily the better player. Comparable shots, but Kessel's a lot faster and capable of creating chances himself instead of serving purely as a triggerman. Plus he's right-handed, which will make all the difference for our PP.

Neal is a much more inconsistent scorer than Kessel. Really, there's no debate about that. He also can't create **** on his own. Kessel can.

all good. but let's forget Neal scored 40 goals and many hattricks that year playing with Malkin.

One year. Playing about ~15g above his yearly average. Playing with one of the 2 best centers in the world. Worlds better than what Kessel has been playing with. Can't skate. Can't create his own offense.

Until Kessel learns to take needless dumb penalties like kneeing guys in the head and gets himself suspended, especially in the playoffs, then I take Neal any day of the week. Kessel will take the lumber to a player now and again, but for the truly psycho lack of control you need a Neal. Especially now that we lost Downie and the refs might lay off us some.

Kessel can create on his own. James Neal really cannot.

You'll take Neal over Kessel and since when did the Pens have Kessler?
