Seeler was playing for a contract, nay, for his hockey life. He will never have another year like this one. And now he has a bum foot, which will never be the same. Normally, this would not be a big deal except the shot blocking is literally the only hockey skill he has. For some reason the Flyers love paying players well into the mid 30s. They cannot stand youth, even today's trade they made them older (technically).

I don’t see a problem with this. The Flyers weren’t going to get a big return for Seeler and felt his value as a teammate and reliable bottom pairing guy was higher than whatever they could have gotten for him.

Yep. This is why I'm fine with keeping him for the time being. Known quantity vs some mid rounder who may never even sniff the NHL. He's fine on a third pairing.

well, in addition to every opinion that's been expressed already...this deal and Walker's trade to COL demonstrates to the dressing room what will be expected, both this season, and beyond, and what the team will do to support the players. There's some reassurance for the room that Flyers will continue to tap the brakes as well as give it some gas, and that makes a lot of sense. Seeler is an expensive 5-6 dee, for sure, but overpaid by how much? By $700k, at the very very most? And with the rebuild in place, and young dee playing huge minutes for Philly already, how bad can it be to have a guy who's shown how well he can play within this framework there.

In the end, the $$ spent on Seeler is zero to get upset about, absolutely zero. If it turns out to be a mistake, it's like a $1M X4 mistake....2 or 3 or more letter grades better than the current cap mistakes of Ellis (never trade for a 31 years old in 2nd year of a 7 year contract, ever, there's no reason), Risto and Hayes.

Not true. He's a good skater, especially for his size, and physically strong. I don't like the signing either, but because of his age and the Flyer's rebuild, not because he's a bum who doesn't do anything except shot blocking.

Well when you add "slightly overpaid" Seeler to "grossly overpaid" Ristolainen, how many other NHL teams are paying their 3rd pairing $7.7 Million per?

It's continuously slightly overpaying players who are replaceable for cheaper that helps to keep Philly lame.

This franchise will never change one BIT! Seeler will be the next development coach/ phantom coach. They will use him to mentor the young dman coming up. He will be the new everybodies darling.

he will underperform as hell and they will protect him every f***ing second! The praise of D´angelo, Fisto or Amac will be the least annoying thing we have witnessed from now on!

Buckle up Flyers fans!
The nightmare scenario = being a Flyers fan.

Jokes on you (and every Flyers fan). This team was never rebuilding.
Yes, they are rebuilding. Do you know how many 1st and 2nd round picks Danny Briere has stockpiled thus far? You know what, just sit on the outside whining about how much you hate the direction the team is going with, and how much you probably hate Coach Tortorella, better yet, go root for another team.
