I really hope the Hawks trade for Murray just so the Hawks fan who insists that the Hawks wouldn't want Murray gets mad.

At least they wouldnt bend over backwards and do a complete 180 on their opinion like you did in that Hornqvist for Mattheson thread the moment the trade went through.

Chicago only has $11 million in cap and still need to re-sign Kubalik and Strome...so I doubt they had the cap for Murray's ridiculous demands.

I can see Chicago re-signing Crawford or going with a cheaper UFA goalie instead.

I can easily see Murray having a ridiculous asking price on an extension, but I also think it's possible that the Hawks made him a pretty low offer based on what they offered Crawford and based on other contracts with the team. I'm guessing it's a little bit of both, Murray wants to get paid based on winning 2 cups despite having a bad year last year while Chicago wanted to get him on a reclamation project contract.

I'm really curious to see how this situation plays out. If Murray has a high demand and goes to arbitration, he may lose that and get something really close to his QO.

Hawks made low offer for reason

Murray blows and all the risk is on Hawks giving up asset for him and then giving him contract

Murray needs to realize he just lost his job to Jarry , We have flat cap and he has been pretty terrible for most part in recent memory

Teams aren't rushing to acquire his services nor will they open checkbook for him

The longer this goes on the lower Murray's trade value becomes. Murray needs to come down to Earth and realize he's not a true #1 goalie. If he stays healthy, he's best a 1A/1B type and he should not be getting that much of an increase above his last contract of $3.75 million per year. As a Caps fan, I have no problem seeing the Pens Murray situation drag on and on! :DD

Stan attempting to trade for him is fireable offense

Can only imagine what he was going to give away ,, Hawks 1st? Kurashev? Totally would have been awful for Hawks anything above a late round pick

Trading for a 26yo 2x cup winner is a fireable offense? Dang.

I suggested the Pens 2nd+ Cameron Morrison.

You assume that GMs will fall back to free UFAs which I dont think is the case. Yeah there are a lot of UFA goalies available but that doesnt mean Murray isnt the preference. The longer it goes on the more quality UFA get snatched up. That will be better for the Pens and Murray.

The longer this goes on the less options there are for teams who miss out on UFA's and other trade targets. Not sure how that makes his value less. There will be less options to trade him to, but less options for those teams. It's not like he has a NTC and can force their hand.

Which part?
The part where we give up a high 2nd and a young, cost-controlled forward for a redundant forward and the opportunity to pay Murray whatever the heck he wants on his next contract. I don't think Minnesota would move either of those pieces for Murray, let alone both.

I'd have to dig through Russo's Twitter replies but he's been asked about Murray multiple times, and each time he's been pretty adamant that Guerin's not looking that way. It'll either be Fleury or, failing that, a UFA goalie. Moving prime assets for a goalie isn't in the cards.

Pens held Murray for too long
Right now Rutherford is like the guy in 2001 scrambling trying to sell his big share of Beanie Babies thinking there is money to be made

Like I said in the Dubnyk thread, I think Minnesota retaining $2 million on Dubnyk makes them pretty unlikely to trade for an expensive goalie like Murray or Fleury. I think the realistic Murray landing spots are teams with cap space and a need for a goalie, so Detroit and Ottawa make sense.

How about Murray for Geekie, Canes fans

Not interested

2021 2nd is about all I'd like to pay for Murray. More interested in just about every other option - Markstrom, Kuemper, Raanta, Merzlikins/Korpisalo, Demko, Lundqvist, Holtby, MAF (with heavy retention or Cap dumps returned) or Andersen.

i didn't know "Blackhawkswincup" was the player/asset value specialist in the NHL

I mean he's right. No team is going to trade much for Murray when he wants 5+ coming off a bad year, in a flat cap year.

The teams that can afford Murray know that they are the only ones (Ottawa and Detroit) so you won't see much of a bidding war.

i mean, I can totally see a 3rd being the highest pick Murray can get.
