Last year we paid a 3rd rounder for a pure TDL rental, a move 95% of this board was happy with. Now we paid that same price for a younger player, who's going to still be with the team past this season and has untapped potential.

What's the difference?

But with Vanek there was a Chance he had a good NHL Season in Vancouver. But sucked pretty hard for us, but like Malgin he showed high Hockey IQ in a 1 Way Game.
I didn´t saw this in a dsingle good NHL Season, maybe there is the difference. he could end up in the AHL next Year, only have a secure spot if he is counted as one of DT Boys. And you really wanna give up a 3rd Round for it.
With the last games played in the NHL our current PO chances getting much better. Where and when you wanna try it when not now? And this Trade should be the answer also for the future. Maybe for the future no one knows, but for the current Situation definetly not.

Fwiw, Vatrano no longer listed as being on the IR on team website. But Boughner said today he was week to week, so probably means nothing.

^Let Vatrano heal properly even if it means he doesn't suit up the rest of the year. He's of no value to the team at 80% or so and it's going to take him time to learn Mr. Boo's system. Durability is at the forefront of his future. Cats will resign him to a 2 way contract extension as he is a RFA on 7/1/18. He will get a fresh start at camp in Sept. :)

Seemed like they wanted to acquire him for a while. Any clue on who in the organization liked him a lot?
Aka a group effort, Tuer, or a self aware calculator?

IMO, everything is the Committee. Tallon has been relegated to working the phones. Any acquisition proposals are formulated by the Committee sent to Dale to discuss with various GM's to work out the details. Final approval is Viola after consultation with Dale first and then McCabe privately.

Unless Viola is a total "turn the other cheek" guy, Tallon's final decision days were over after his rant in Montreal. If the team gets a request from another organization to talk to Tallon about a job, I think Vinnie gives them the green light. That way it doesn't make him look like he's the one making the decision. If Tallon sticks around thru the final year of his contract, it will be under the strict rules outlined above. :)

Dale is pretty damn schrewd with trades, have to give him that.

Unfortunately, a pretty eerie parallel with former Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland, one of the biggest dunces in all of pro sports. But man, he could get good value on a trade.

4 to 8 weeks for a high ankle sprain. Happened on 2/6/18, so it's been a month. Eichel has been out 3 weeks with his high ankle sprain and some are calling for him to be shut down for the remainder of the season. Painful injury that can be chronic unless rest and slow rehab are followed. :)

Eichel would also just ruin the tank for them.
