Only down to move the pick to get a legit top 4 defenseman who is under 30.

Looks like we have a 1% chance at 1st overall and 3% chance at 2nd overall

as D goes i definitely like wilde, ty smith would be great too. i like how wilde plays, good dimensions, good skater, handles the puck well, walks the line well, nice shot, can jump in the play, he has solid tools. if kotkaniemi is avilable id go with him, ive always liked kupari, bokk and kaut could be nice picks, denisenko could be risky but high reward. i also always like jacob olofsson, i dont hear many people talk about him.

Kotkaniemi is having a pretty good U18s, might be close to making the top10 now.

In my annual quest to get a Finnish goalie picked in the later rounds, Justus Annunen looks like a good candidate. Eerily similar to Rinne; almost the same size (Annunen 6'4", Rinne 6'5"), same birthplace and the same Liiga team.

Body Wilde is solid pick if he is available. Still in my opinion Panthers should move up and try to get Quinton Hughes. Trade Mascherin....

Ty Smith is labeled as a big time character guy so I would imagine Tallon has him over similar players like Hughes and Wilde. He is definitely captain material.

Shame that Honka has a late b-day and thus is 2019 eligible, he would've probably been right around 15th to 20th in this year's class. Next year depending how his development goes could be a top5 pick.

Denisenko is the guy if he is available. Get him signed and in the AHL after a year in the KHL the way the Boltz have done with their Russian prospects. This guy is going to be dynamic. Farabee will likely be gone, but I have him as the first alternate.

If they're gone, then go defense. I'll trust the committee to pick the best available candidate as the scouting dept/analytics is first class IMO. The downside on D is the upside is limited to 2nd pairing after the top 5 are gone. We can get that with the 34th pick. :)

It is all about mobility now. Which defenseman has the best wheels?

On that topic what a great rookie season Mack Weegar has put together. We essentially have an emerging PMD on our bottom pairing.
Smith is the guy if it's about carrying and distributing the puck. The problem is he is too skinny/weak and would need 2 or 3 years to bulk up.

Weegar makes the most sense on who to pair Matheson with. That would leave Petro to pair with one of Pysyk/McCoshen (who are not noted for carrying the puck). It's a conundrum for Boo as he has hinted he would like to move Yandle off the shutdown role which can only mean he is slotted on the 3rd pairing and is a PP specialist. This presents lots of additional problems on who to pair Ek with that is LH and can carry the puck. It will be interesting to see what they come up with in a trade/UFA or they may just decide to leave the first pair alone. :)

Craig Button has us calling Joe Veleno's name, a C with LHS. He has speed for days and does play in the corners, 6'1, 195lb but more of a playmaker than scorer. Can be used in all situations and could be a backup plan if we can't re-sign Trocheck down the road.

Bob Mackenzie saying one of Grigori Denisenko or Vitali Kravtsov are in around 15th. Vitali is a RW with LHS, seems like he may be more NHL ready with his 6'2, 185lb frame playing 35 KHL games and brings some grit and skill. Didn't have impressive regular season numbers (4 g, 11pts in 35 games) but had a solid playoff showing with 6 goals, 11pts in 16 games. Has good speed, soft hands and is pretty decent defensively

Grigori's is a LW with RHS, 5'10, 170 lb build who only played in the MHL this year, although GD is only 17 years old is a playmaker with top end speed, good vision and a decent shot. Apparently the knock on him is his temper and bad discipline which leads to penalties, also needs to learn to play a 200ft game.

Sam Consentino from Sportsnet has us picking hulking 6'5, 205lb Serron Noel, a RW with RHS. A net front presence who has some wheels and a pretty heavy shot. Won the 30M dash in CHL prospects combine so speed is not an issue, the knock on him is he does not play to his size enough which takes off some interest for me.

Can someone explain the hype around Denisenko? His MHL numbers look very average (good to great prospects are usually PPG or above in that league) and he didn't make the U18 team (unless he was injured?).

Or is this draft class really that bad?

Ya I agree, he has all the skill in the world apparently but his numbers arent eye popping for a junior league.
I do like Veleno and Kravtsov out of the bunch that are linked to us so far by the "experts".

If we go forward with the 1st, definitely look into a D or G with the 2nd round pick.
