Add/drops have always been 1st come, 1st served AFTER the last pick (even if skipped pick) is made.

We all had a chance to draft any of the undrafteds when we were on the clock during the draft.

I've sent a PM to @Claude The Fraud letting him know that the last pick of the draft is his.

I haven't been staying on top of my PM-notifications, as I've been on list-pick these last three Rounds.

So many questions about add/drop. [in a 10 person draft?!?] With the possibility that multiple parties might be interested, how will that go? Derby-style?!

Not impossible that the same player(s) might be coveted by more than one person.

[I think add-drops in OPPF are for pants- but that's a discussion for next year...]

I PM'd him when he was skipped, he said he probably wouldn't make his pick until Sunday

Claude told me he'd be back on Sunday (or Monday). He's on vacation without internet access.

Note: Marleau isn't a LW/C.

He played his peak 8- to 9-years at RW, was a C earlier, and was LW on the 2014 Olympic line (the checking line with Toews and Carter) and late in his career.

He is a RW/C or C/RW ideally, or if we reflect all positions played then F or W/C, C/W could be justified. But no way LW/C.

never been listed at RW and all my googling tells me that he’s a center/left wing

Chicago's last pick comes from Montreal and will slot in as second line Center between Firsov and Martinec forming the FML Line (because that's what opposing defenses say to themselves when they have to line up against them :naughty:)!

Chicago selects Newsy Lalonde, C (Montreal)

Lalonde also completes our trio of big/physical/nasty centers: Messier - Lalonde - Smith, which should take a toll on our opponents, especially over a 7 game series.

(Our 4th line center, Joe Thornton, isn't cut from quite the same cloth as these guys, but he does have size at least)

Not all all who I expected you'd take from Montreal to be your second line center (I guess I can name Henri Richard since nobody can take him anymore even in add/drop) but thinking through what you said and your team build, makes quite a bit of sense lol

Is he better than Gare? I was torn between the two.

I don't really get into that stuff much, as @zffssk said in a different context which I'll take to a further conclusion, placing the player in context in a team is far more important than individual evaluation (and the types of evaluations here usually aren't just based on talent but on things that cannot easily/at all be separated from their particular contexts). Gustafsson though is a repeat pick of mine for the very reason that he's so versatile, a trained center that ended up playing both wings more. Sublime offensive skill, but played so well defensively in a role as well. Gives me the more counterattack based penalty kill look with Modano as well. With me also usually being the one taking Lindros, I gotta make sure I have guys who can fill in at center in a pinch like Marian Stastny, Walker, Gustafsson.

Interesting to hear you might've picked him, I was sure I'd be the only one interested so I waited for last pick lol

Oh, since we're discussing player positions, Gustafsson has usually been listed as a right wing when I've picked him previously. I am assuming this follows the NHL official position.

While it's true Gustafsson did play on the right side at times, he would play on the left or at center more than that depending on the Capitals needs at various times.

Since all star voting seems to be a big factor in determining position (I don't agree at all, but remember it was bought up when I took Zetterberg before in a previous draft lol), Gustafsson got votes for the all star team at left wing (1984) and center (1986).

As a more precise source, the Hockey Scouting Reports generally listed Gustafsson as Left Wing (1986-87, 1987-88, 1988-89) in his player profile, though 1988-89 in the Washington team profile listed him as a Center. Hockey Scouting Report 89-90 listed him at Center.

Gustafsson is a prime example of recent player who probably deserves the generic Forward/F listing here for these drafts.

Drop: Marleau
Add: Jean Pronovost, the Pens first 50-goal, 100-point player who was four times top-10 in goals and had six seasons of 5+ game-winning goals, yet the Lady Byng runner up was more importantly appreciated for his hard work without the puck.

ATD bio said:
A complete player, 6'0 185-pounder worked the corners and back checked with authority, qualities that endeared him to the Steel City faithful. "Let's go, Pronovost" was a popular chant at the Civic Arena throughout the 1970s.

Between participants reaching for elite Goaltender Rescue Pods early [Hasek at 4 & Brodeur at 10], all of the Montreal top-30 of all-time skaters (i.e.: non-goalies in the HoH top-100 list) being gone before the end of the 7th round, AND all of the mid-level Goaltender Rescue Pods disappearing between Rounds 5 & 9- these three confluences met to keep Jacques Plante & Ken Dryden out of this league- for the first time in the 10-12 team era.

THIS would have been the year to play Montreal Goaltender Roulette. And with the possible exception of @tinyzombies , none of us saw it coming.

I was looking at a couple of other players of active players the smaller league had an impact but I was definitely looking at McDavid & MacKinnon for a spot especially if my third line was meant to score.

A generous way of looking at the Kennedy selection is- he's been taken in the 6th Round once before [2019]. That aside, our usual 'Toronto Bell' sounded in the early/mid 60s, with four players snapped up at (I'd argue) solid value shortly thereafter. This time, however, Apps was not selected in the first wave, instead being part of the 'Toronto Aftershock' of picks 102-105. Jackson's earliest-pick-ever tagging at 105 can be explained by a raging run on LWs- with eight LWs taken between picks 92 & 109 (inclusive).

The nine "always picked" Red Wings remain always picked. Bargain-special goes to @tabness for his selection of Sawchuk at #73. Quackenbush oscillates between middle Rounds and at or near the end. Coulter, too, has this draft-pattern.

I'll go out on-a-limb and say that if the OPPF ATD expanded to as many as 17 teams, all the participants would play a Detroit Card.

I wanted Sawchuk to preserve all those Montreal forwards for my last pick. When Roy came up I didn't think I'd get another elite goalie so I went for it. I got Delvecchio for what I thought to be very low, so it worked out in reverse.

Except for the fact that Bill Cowley was left on the cutting-room floor, this really was The Draft of the Bs, with five Bruins selected higher than ever. Three others, Esposito*, Brimsek, and Schmidt- were taken measurably higher than their composite average the last three years.

Chara & Bucyk were the most jarring upward-movers.

Since I was the last person to throw my Ranger Chip into-the-pot, I feel like I had a pretty good seat for the unpacking of this season's Ranger Rucksack. Cook at 19 feels like he's rightfully coalesced at that level. Brad Park late in the Fourth Round seems like it will either be @Voight 's move, or TDMM's. Boucher at 50 kind-of-surprised me, but he does seem to get a lot of credit for that pair of Ranger Cups. Bathgate at 60 is defensible, since he'll play unless the bone's sticking out. Skilled, physical, bilateral Defencemen don't grow on trees, so I totally get the Gadsby snag at 77. Leetch went where he figures to go. Then, once Johnson & Hextall went in Round 10, it was just Van & me- each looking at Coulter and wondering who was going to clear holster first. Ultimately, Laval was willing to pay a higher price than I was. That left me with the last Blueshirt Bag- and I had the option of three different Wingers or maybe the five alarm Goaltender Emergency Line (or super-elite back-up) of Lundqvist. At length, I decided to keep Dillon's streak alive.

Maybe next year will be the year Panarin gets the call...

New to Chicago this year- @Claude The Fraud 's use of Charlie Gardiner as a mid-level Goaltender Rescue Pod at pick 85. How many years have BlackHawks provided succour for OPPF-GMs drafting in the latter-part of the opening half of The Draft?

This year, perhaps more than any other, provides an illustration of that peculiar topological feature that @ResilientBeast refers to as the "Chicago Cliff."

Thanks for posting those @ChiTownPhilly, a far less predictable draft than the main one in terms of position. It does seem that some players are slotting into a usual position, but a run on one of the original six teams easily throws everything outta wack.

Robinson was the guy I targeted with my Montreal pick from the get go, took him way earlier than I had expected/wanted to, but had to. Still very pleased even at 68. Otherwise it was wait till the end for Henri Richard.

I knew it was getting close for Keon, but still thought he'd make it to my next pick when I'd scoop him up.

Really thought I would get Yzerman later than he went, very pleased to get Sawchuk as a consolation though, I knew when @VanIslander said he'd be picking between the two I'd take the other (needed to grab Robinson first of course). Love the depth on the team though, would have been very happy with a Fedorov, Abel, Delvecchio, Datsyuk, Zetterberg later anyway.

Losing out on Schmidt was the most crushing part of the draft for me lol as I figured I could wait since almost everyone at that point had locked in two centers so I was safe for a bit longer. Little did I know that people would start on their third center before I had my first. Bergeron is probably the pick I would take back if I had to do it again, though it seemed to work out teamwise. I had sent a list with Hossa first and Kasatonov second, before quickly changing it to Bergeron, I guess I didn't want to be burned anymore on losing out on another center. I also gave great thought to taking Oates, until I took Modano to be the Hulls center.

Super happy to get Leetch, always part of the plan, got him at a good time too. I'd have taken him earlier had I not needed to get Robinson and Sawchuk at 68 and 73.

Bobby Hull, well, was always slated to be my first pick as soon as my draft position had settled. Had I not gotten him I'd have gone Chelios or if not him, Belfour lol
