That would be the best possible news on Lucic.
a) we don't get him.
b) we drive the price up for him on a stupid deal for Edmonton.
c) Benning looks like a chump for failing to get his guy after all the hype the organization put out there. Ownership hopefully unimpressed.

Benning probably drove the price to 6 X 6. Isn't it a shame though that whenever Benning helps this franchise, he was trying to do the opposite. Terrified what Plan B will be though.
Another possible positive, between Benning's tampering fine and trying and failing to sign Lucic, maybe he'll be out the door sooner rather than later.

Yes, agreed on all three points there. Aquilini's gonna be pretty pissed we couldn't land his hometown cash cow to sell more season tickets. I don't really care about Lucic in Edmonton since he'll break down completely in 2-3 years; hopefully they end up with a Clarkson contract. Also don't want him here, and if it gets this management team out the door quicker, all the better.
This is what a lot of posters have been saying since the end of the last season. It doesn't matter how much cap space the Canucks have ... nobody will sign here.

Yeah, even better if that happens.
That said, Edmonton is also a way better fit for Lucic than here. He'll get top-line minutes there with an elite center whereas here he'd be stuck on a 2nd line barring a late-career position change.
Hey cmon, Canucks are guaranteed a top 5 pick next year. But by December, Benning will be looking to trade that pick to save his job.
Cmon, they even had Aquilinis and the mayor making the pitch for them.
If Benning goes and blows all the money to secondary targets (Helm, Boedker etc) that flop ala Miller or Sutter, the ownership hopefully has had enough at that time.

If Edmonton wants to get rid of Hall, I'd happily trade Tanev for him even though it would hurt.

The fact that he lacks the competency to execute his extremely misguided plans is troubling and deserving of criticism imo
