I know you are doing shtick on DD but you realize the reason they were so terrible was because of the abysmal Dead Weight being their coach? If they had even just a competent coach they are a playoff team and probably comfortably so. If they cancel the Garth and Doug Show, replace them with people who are competent and resign JT they will almost surely do a 180 next year.

I always saw them as more of a bubble team. I didn’t think they’d detonate as bad as they did and certainly Weight’s Systemless play is the cause for 50 shots against.

But like DD said, what’s the goalie situation like for them next year? Greiss isn’t a starter and neither is Halak anymore.

I figured they'd be anywhere from 4th to 6th in the division when the season started.

I didn't think they'd finish below Carolina and I figured one other would finish below them. I think they still can finish in 6th or the Rangers and Canes free fall worse than them.

I thought Darling would be a 915% goaltender, .910% at the very worst, so I didn't think the Canes would be quite as bad as they have been, but that Darling experiment might even be the difference in making and missing the playoffs this year.

I think the Sabres are making a mistake signing Mittelstadt this early. Yes his number look great and he had a killer WJC, but he's still very physically immature.

I think they should be patient - he's not the difference between making the playoffs and not. They should be letting him develop another year. Focus on rebuilding the defense and letting him continue to mature. The last thing they want is to have this super talented kid come in and get dragged into the shitshow.

It's not like the Sabres are in a hurry, they have a lot of holes to fill. What's the rush? Let him develop in a positive atmosphere.

My brother is a hardcore Sabres fan (I live around Buffalo) and he's absolutely terrified that Mittelstadt is going to get ruined.

Minnesota just hired Bob Motzko away from St. Cloud. Not that I'm an expert on college coaches but that one seems pretty surprising. He'll probably need a recruiting class or two to reshape their squad, so I don't blame Mittelstadt/Buffalo for going pro now. If he struggles next year, Buffalo can send him to the AHL.
