I remember over the summer the gnashing of teeth that happened on the board (including myself) about re-signing Ryan. I had come to terms with it thinking he's familiar and had a decent season as long as they aren't leaning on him to be a core piece it wouldn't be such a big deal. And now here we are

This isn’t hard to figure out. Brown isn’t playing in Colorado and if someone gets hurt he draws in against Arizona on the 4th line. You don’t want to bring in a guy who needs top 9 minutes to an otherwise winnable road game.

I’d prefer to see Wallmark get a chance to be the 3C as well, but these two games aren’t the time if you are a conservative team.

So to bring a little perspective and perhaps some light at the end of the tunnel, the Hurricanes opponents overall record thus far is a 101+ point pace. The teams they’ve beaten are playing at an 80 point pace, and the teams they’ve lost to are at a 113 point pace.

This road trip needs 3 points against these two teams.

That makes things seems a little less grim. I have to think this team has a better season ahead of them than the first 10 games.

Along those same lines, I looked at our October schedule preseason and thought “we could theoretically lose each of these games individually and not be able to say we are a vastly better team.”

Those stats back up my initial feeling that we went through the ringer opponent-wise in October. Not a blanket excuse, but as THH said, might be a sign of a natural uptick even if we continue to play the same.

Losing Pesce is a blow....a big blow. He's not perfect, but "solid defensively" accurately describes his work. We don't have anybody to fill that role right now. Here's to hoping that Faulk/Slavin plays better than it has in the past.

My b I misunderstood. I don't think TVR or Fleury has really distinguished themselves as being way better than the other but obviously Fleury has plenty of room to grow whereas TVR pretty much is what he is at this point. I guess it's possible Smith can work some of his magic on a veteran player rather than a young one, that would certainly be helpful for the Canes
