I’ve long wondered how it would work out if someone opened up ownership in an NHL team at $10 a share. Perhaps this is our chance to find out

I'd love to see more community owned sports teams a la Green Bay. Sadly, they're grandfathered in, all the leagues ban it now. Probably because it's a major threat to their business model- exceedingly difficult to move a team or threaten to in order to extract concessions, fans would be more interested in keeping ticket and beer prices low than extracting every last ounce of cash, etc. It would be an arms race to make the leagues more pro fan/consumer, and the other owners could never stand for that.

What might be fun is to pass a federal law saying that every pro sports league playing in any taxpayer funded arena has to give a community owned corporation 6 months to match the price on any team sale. Make the teams a genuine extension of the community.
