The even bigger issue with the current definition is some of the media break it down even further to simply "remove this player and does his team miss the playoffs" rather than rewarding someone who turns a 5th seed into a 1st seed.

All this leads to is endless debate on HF. In reality, if the Lindsay winner is on a playoff team, they win the Hart.

Actual reality doesn't show that though. In the history of the Lindsay/Pearson award ~50ish years, the winner of the award did not also win the Hart a total of 17 times. Of those 17 times, only 3 times was the Lindsay winner not on a playoff team.

Not being on a playoff team does make it tough in terms of winning both those awards though, think it's only happened once in history with Lemieux in 1988...and that probably took Wayne missing ~20 games for that to happen. Reality is, if your team has the Pearson and Hart winner, you probably have a good team.
