Orléans/Toronto
Duchene - nope, Nashville
Lee - nope, NYI
Aho - ?

Highly likely Carolina matches before the end of 7 days but freezes Montreal out of free agency.

Well played Bergevin.

Lee would have been a disaster contract unless you think it would cost us the same as the islanders

He may be worth a billion dollars, but does he have 20 million dollars in his bank account that he can withdraw this year and invest even more into Sebastian Aho?

What if he has to sell stocks or land or something for Aho? Will he be willing to do it to save his franchise from fan disgruntlement or will he let him go to have a better chance to cut a profit this season. Very interesting.

We don't know the exact numbers on how the organization work and whats going on with Dundons bank/investments from the outside. Assuming he can pay it and will simply drop 21M$ because he has investments worth billions like he has an unlimited supply is not a fool proof deal. Im hoping he chooses to let him go. We'll see

Oh no, he might have to sell off his mint condition Gundam collection

Why make the cost from montreals perspective even steeper? And extra 1st rounder and less cap room. The whole point is to try and get a steal and not overpay for once.
Because steals dont happen in offer sheets. Carolina is just going to match this and not think twice about it. Theres nothing to debate

Carolina gets their player signed to a moderate amount and term.

Montreal gets their cap locked into the offer sheet so they can't do any stupid signings they would later regret.

Seems like a win-win offer sheet :sarcasm:

I actually think there is some truth in this. I think MB traded Shaw because he was concerned Shaw was a one hit wonder as he was a serious cap concern prior to this season.

With Duchene clearly in the Preds camp and Lee preferring the Isles (and Panarin with no interest), what was left? Overpaying for marginal players makes no sense.

Bergevin is smart. This offersheet has a low chance of succeeding. He cleared Shaw to play it safe and justified it with this offersheet. Win win for Bergevin.
