That is true but if you looked at Caufields play there it was extremely disappointing both years.
But if you looked more than the WJC you would see how much better he has been in the NCAA and how he has been unstoppable this year. It is Kyle Connor level of dominance.

Mittelstadt looked like the next USA superstar. Top WJC scorer and now look at him. In the NCAA he was very average never truly dominant. At the opposite of the spectrum you look at Brayden Point, very average WJC, both year, never truly looked like a superstar but now he is one in the NHL. A player career is never linear and certainly not easily predictable from WJC to the NHL.

Jimmy Vesey dominated in college so do many other nobody’s look at David Ferrance his stats suggest he should be on par with Paul Coffey but chances are he’s going to be nothing special.

And dominating the NCAA is not a guaranteed to an NHL career either. That being said I put more emphasis in a player having success with a team than at a short tournament.

The other thing is that at least in the case of Caufield he has been a 1st round draft pick and has succeeded everywhere so he kind of have a street card. It's not like it came out of nowhere or that he was leaching out of another player. The habs will give him a fair shot to have success that's for sure.

So what you're saying is that if you struggle in college hockey, you're probably not going to turn out. And also if you do really well in college hockey, you're also probably not going to do very well? Interesting.

he only dominated his senior year when he was mature. youre comparing him to CC who was only a sophomore who dominated the ncaa. you're making incredibly weak arguments but it's clear you are trying to knock or slight CC at every turn and refuse to admit he's an elite prospects who just came off a goal scoring college season that doesn't happen very often

In the world juniors being spoon fed top 6 minutes and top pp time in the very least it is very underwhelming especially considering his other teammates stats.
I'm a bit of a Caufield-skeptic but you are off if you base it on the world juniors.

The kid was HORRIBLE MISPLACED in the slot, which is NOT where you want him on the PP. On the PP he was right in the middle of the box where his natural position is playing on the left side while being a right shot. The slot is more for the havoc maker, not the smaller guy on the ice. He had no time and space when two defenders where right in front of him. Gally he is not.

If you see Perry and now Staal, on the PP, they park in front of the net they use their big butts to make room for people and screen the goalie. On the Habs, he would be off the left side half wall, either picking off rebounds or shooting.

So no, even a skeptic saw the lack of smart coaching and misuse on the USA juniors.

It was a 2 man show Zegras and Knight. Caufield contributed nothing.
He was definitely not used very well in that tournament.
If Tony Grananto had been the coach, it would have been a different story...
I think most habs fans are excited to see the kid make the jump, and with good reason....stay tuned if he can produce.
We can see your being skeptical....once again, stay tuned...

Yeah, obly difference os both those guys were 23/24, Caufield is 20.

The only 20yo players who won the HBaket in thenpast 10 years are Eichel, Makar and Gaudreau, and now Caufield.

So yah..
CAUFIELD will doo just fine

Misused and with incompatible centers. The kid needs to find room and a center that can see t he ice....like Suzuki. He does not drive the play nor will he ever do that. He's a scoring opportunist very much in the Laine mold, though kid a bit smaller! lol

If we had Julien, he would be benched the first time he lost his man or position. While I put a very, very high value in a players 200 ft game, but I'm not expecting much more then hard work from him on that. He simply does not have the size to fight on the boards or run people over. What he has is what we don't have and prey that he will become.....a 200 ft responsible SNIPER.

I’m not sure how bonuses work but I believe it’s related to cap space at the moment.
Almost certain he will get some NHL games this year to burn off an ELC year as it’s the usual incentive to sign college players.
Ahh makes sense. He deserves to get a shot, he earned it.
