I was initially going to come in here and "meh" over the perceived discrepancy between the two, but it's possible that Gaudreau's smaller body will assist him in aging gracefully.

Are people really going with Bennett is an upgrade on what Monahan was now?

Well now of course.

When healthy no. I could see that 2nd line struggling to produce
He was always an upgrade on Monahan. Monahan was healthy at the start of the year, skating better than he had in years. But without Gaudreau he was exposed. It's been that way his entire career - he never produced above a 3rd line level without Gaudreau on his line.

Monahan wasn't even close to healthy. He couldn't skate or shoot. Three years ago be would have had twenty goals on the third line.

His skating was better than it had been in years.

The numbers don't lie - Monahan has never produced better than a bottom 6 player without Gaudreau while being very poor all over the ice.

Bennett was better in the OHL, was better as a rookie, and has been a better when used as a top 6 center. He's got 34g 64p in 81gp with the Panthers, despite playing 2nd unit PP time for most of his time there (and a good amount without Huberdeau on his line).

Considering Huberdeau has 72%Ozs with only half a minute less ice time per game and about as many PK mins as Barkov despite playing 13 games more. It’s quite clear that it created more opportunities to Huberdeau than took them away.
Huberdeau produced 92 points in 18/19 with less than 50% Ozs. Gaudreau also got pumped with Ozs btw.

Gaudreau over 8 years easily

Calgary will not be a power house on offense and Hub is already 30

If everything pawn out Columbus will have a hell of a transition game, Werenski Jiricek Boqvist Mateychuk with Laine and they young player
Yup. Johnny will be over 800 points and Huberdeau will be closer to 600.

Gaudreau by far.

Calgary's up-and-coming prospects and supporting cast, combined with cap flexibility and style of play, will hinder Huby in a big way for points.

Columbus' future looks bright if the prospects pan out and they can navigate the cap well. Jarmo seems to be doing a decent job of building a culture that players want to be a part of.

61%>50%, Huberdeau has never had less than 50%Ozs.

The point was that having Barkov’s line take the hardest matchups allowed Huberdeau to get the easier matchups, while Gaudreau’s line has been the only line in Flames that opponents had to focus on.

I predict that both of them will produce at a much higher clip in the regular season than in the post season, where both will struggle to produce up to their standards and abilities.

What's the point of included PP or PK zone starts in the argument involving even strength matchups?

It entirely depends on if Johnny can maintain his speed and quickness into his 30s. Whenever that goes it will be a quick downfall for him.

I think Gaudreau is the better player and I think his game ages better. That said, it's always tough to make these comparisons since there is so much other stuff in play. I trust Huberdeau's linemates more in the short term than Gaudreau's. Calgary looks better overall than Columbus this year.

Honestly I just wish I lived in an alternate reality where Calgary could have re-signed Gaudreau AND made the Tkachuk for Huberdeau-Weegar deal and we'd have both.

Are people not aware that Huberdeau is 2 months older than Gaudreau?

Anyway, I will say Gaudreau here..but it's going to be closer than people think.

wow....nope. If i had to guess I would have expected 2-3 years difference with Huberdeau older, didn't realize it was so close.

I voted Huberdeau by accident...I initially assumed it was Tkachuk vs Huberdeau, and prefered Huberdeau. vs Gaudreau....i'm tempted to take Gaudreau. It's actually a very close poll though.

I think Gaudreau's highs > Huberdeau's highs, but Gaudreau's lows have also been a lot worst, so it's a tradeoff.

Monahan only ever played one full season before this last one without Gaudreau and had 22 goals. That's top 6 production.

and 34 points despite shooting at 16%. That's not top 6 production.

His career 5v5 p/60 without Gaudreau before this season was something like 1.38. That's not top 5 production.
