2.3 years vs 2 years isn't gonna impact the value much imo. Not to mention we can protect him from the expansion draft and other teams might lose an asset they wouldn't have otherwise.

Figured Sakic wouldn't pull the trigger. Just playing the GM game.

He's probably better off keeping Landeskog and Duchene.

Fact is though that we still need a couple dmen that could potentially turn into a top pairing dman someday. We aren't likely gonna get it through this year's draft, we aren't getting it through FA obviously, and all our current dmen are either 2nd pairing or have the potential to be 2nd pairing.

Something has to give imo, we need our 25 minute a night two-way guy.

Eh except that the end of the season + playoffs add to his value? This summer, it will be only a 2 year rental, not a 2 year rental + a playoff run... The way these trade talks seems to have been going, I wouldn't be surprised if the Avs stay stucked with Duchene up until the 2019 deadline. Let's see if you guys get a Hamonic or a Sergachev then.

So there are rumors that two teams have ponied up sakic's ridiculous asking price but now we are going to stay stucked with him.

At least we can end the "he isn't worth it" and "no one is going to pay that" posts.

And we are glad to keep him...;)

But will he be glad to stay after having his name thrown around like that for 2 months? From what I heard, Duchene seems on the brink of depression at the moment...

Anyway, it's Sakic's choice. Get a stud defenseman for a potential 10+ years (I'm talking Sergachev here) or keep a dissatisfied forward (from what it looks like) and trade him for way less down the road. We'll see!

5th best? wow...I don;t know much about avs but you know nothing about Islanders.

Are you literally trying to assert that Anders Lee is better than Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon or Mikko Rantanen?

You could make a case for him being better than Rantanen, at present. The others, no. Not at all.

Anders Lee is in the range of the Nino Neiderreiter's of the league. Good forward, overall underwhelming until consistently proven otherwise.

omg u compared lee to neiderreiter? Being the worst team since the 91 senators is getting to the heads of avs fans.

Pulock/Hamonic, Nelson, Dal Colle and Isles keep their picks? Or do we add a 1st on top of that? Really bad price to pay but at the very least we keep Barz

Yeah. Think more teams are finding out that top Dmen prospects are a premium and teams are very reluctant to move them.

Yeah really bad price indeed.

Hopefully those other guys were right.

That deal IMO really is not what the Avs need to get out of any Duchene deal...

Think about a Nelson, MDC, Pulock/Hamonic return for Duchene.

Nelson and Pulock/Hamonic are all ED eligible, meaning that you have to protect two at the cost of one ED eligible player (Duchene). Also, MDC is likely the Islanders third or fourth best defensive prospect at the moment. Pulock will be 23 years old this fall and has yet to establish himself in the NHL. Hamonic is older than Duchene and does not fit Sakic's self-expressed age profile.

Even if this was a true representation of what the Islanders offered, the Avs almost have to wait until after the ED to make a trade like this or the Avs risk losing a player they really do not want to lose in the ED.

Forget that then.

Yeah well.

That should kill every deal instantly.

He is arguably the most interesting piece for the Avs in any deal (which is a problem in itself) and he does not even fit a real need.

If he is not even on the table, Sakic should just move on and do something productive with his time...

Well the Avalanche fans on hfboards have spoken I guess, good thing Sakic needs your permission before making any trade.

Dal Colle is a forward.

Actually, if Sergachev would be available as of now. Sakic would have pull the trigger already on a deal surrounding him.
