The first Beleskey thread from 2015 is pretty entertaining, he was always a polarizing player.

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/matt-beleskey.1956701/

Pretty entertaining to read through it 2 years later I agree- a few didn't care for him early on, but I don't think anyone predicted the absolute train wreck that he's turned out to be. Wow. The first post on the first page pretty positive to the first post of the last page "pray to all that is holy that Vegas takes him" pretty much sums up the Matt Beleskey experience

You’re right, even though I wasn’t a fan of the signing at the time I thought he had an ok first year. I never thought he’d fall off a cliff right after that and never recover.

I play him vs Coyotes.
I would too. Would it really matter if he were in instead of Vatrano?

Belesky gets a lot of crap here from everyone, including myself. But Vatrano is supposed to be this great sniper who has only sniped two goals and no assists in 18 games. At least Belesky plays a physical game where Vatrano does not. I guess unless you count him getting pounded by Cedric Paquette being physical.

No they don't. Once DeBrusk is back they'll have 15 healthy forwards, 7 d-men and two goaltenders. That's one over the 23 man roster so someone HAS TO GO DOWN. No replacement required.

So it becomes Kuraly for a savings of $808,750 or Beleskey for a savings of $1,025,000.
The difference between those two is $216,250. Which is huge when considering it can be banked for trade deadline day.

Edit: And oh, by the way, your example with Kenny Agostino doesn't work. He's on a one way contract so he gets the same in the AHL as he does in the NHL.

Consider me schooled. Thank you

Bruins still weighing what to do with Matt Beleskey - The Boston Globe

Jake DeBrusk will be back in the lineup Thursday night when the Bruins face the Coyotes at the Garden and Ryan Spooner will return to the press box, hindered again by a groin injury that has pestered him for nearly two months.

So, for the moment, it appears little-used winger Matt Beleskey will remain on the Black-and-Gold roster. The underperforming Beleskey, scratched Thursday night for the eighth time in nine games, is in peril of being demoted to AHL Providence, if the Bruins decide to place him on waivers.

“Donny and I are going to sort through that this afternoon,” said coach Bruce Cassidy, noting that he and general manager Don Sweeney would be conferring on roster issues later in the day. “Spooner didn’t skate today and we have to look at where he’s going, in terms of progress for Saturday.”

F&M mentioned that Bs are something like 8-1-2 when Beleskey doesn't play and 4-8 when he's in the lineup, I missed the exact record

I guess it's about time- they've been more than patient with Beleskey (for good reason, I think) but it really has passed the point where there is any use having him take up a roster spot. Cassidy clearly isn't keen to play him when it isn't a 100% dire emergency, so let's save the 200k+ on the cap by sending him down and see what happens over the summer. You have to really wonder if Beleskey is not showing up well at the practices either, and if there is something going on with him that we don't know about. Has he failed to recover sufficiently from the knee injury? Whatever the case, Spooner or no Spooner on the roster, Matt's time appears up.

Good.

Really amazed with how this turned out. You knew from the get-go it was a bad contract, but he had a really good first year (comparatively, the team was running on fumes at that point but he was one of the few that put up a consistent effort). Then, second year sucked. And now this year, he can't even get in the lineup. You'd think a big guy with somewhat of a mean streak, if he played the way he did in Anaheim, would at least be a great 3rd line player. He just lost EVERY shred of his identity last year. Has to be the worst contract in the league.

Sad for the player, seems like a good guy but way overdue. Right thing to do.

The $19 million in his bank account will hopefully be of some consolation  He is a good guy though, involved in charity around here and seems to be well-liked by the team. But he's just not good. Or even passable.

Meh. Generally I have a tough time feeling bad for someone making 3.9 mil a year to play hockey...doesn't matter if it's AHL or NHL. He seems like a good guy and could maybe find a 4th line job again one day, but not at this price tag.

It took long enough. Now we wait- I find it hard to believe anyone takes him off waivers (but miracles do happen!), so is this a prelude to a Providence assignment?

I think they can still keep him with the team but won’t count on the 23 players roster.

Best case with Beleskey is a trade for a worse contract but better player...

Unfortunately the guy has been pretty brutal for us. Had a decent first year and was worth his coin. Got injured last year and has seemingly never returned to anywhere near the form. Easily understandable that he couldn't be traded. Or I guess he could've if we threw in a first ropund pick or something, but that is even worse asset management than the actual signing of Beleskey...

Mr. Make-Believe

The happy genius of my household
I've been one of his biggest supporters and even I can admit this move was past due. Was really hoping he'd come in to this season re-energized and back to the guy we saw in his first season here.

But it's not even close. He's been as awful as criticized, which is really saying something when it comes to this board's vitriol.

I don't want a lot for Christmas. But Santa, if you're listening... I've been so good this year. Can I please have an NHL team put in a claim for Matt Beleskey? A better gift than anything I could find under my tree this blessed holiday season.

Beat me to it - was trying to find the thread to post the waiver notice.

It had to be done - it's the math. Too many players, no spot for him in the big club. If he were back to his peak, it'd be a great situation where we could rotate and rest forwards. But he's not. He's on a 30 game pointless streak, including 3 playoff games and 13 games last year. Nothing since 3/15.

I'm not too hopeful that he'll "find his groove" in the AHL. That's like saying a master artist can find his groove by using finger paint.

Dumb question: We still get cap hit for him in the AHL, assuming he clearas? I've totally forgotten the rules...is it a prorated thing?

EDIT: Smart answer that just appeared on my timeline:

I wonder how much of this was Beleskey and how much was Cassidy. Beleskey at least, as mentioned, should have been able to contribute as a mean third line winger willing to fight in his weight class and sometimes above but he showed zero jump and aggression since Cassidy took over.

For a team as soft as the Bruins to waive one of the very few forwards who has some physicality to his game, especially being forced to eat a huge contract, I wonder if more was in play here.

Not defending his play this year, he has been awful with one of the worst contract in the league.
Maybe he lights it up in Providence and somebody would take him at half price on reentry waivers.

Spooner 2.85 and Beleskey 3.8 would make a pretty good second line wings salary.
