I see Fraser and Ranger rotating in and out of the line up for a little while. Fraser serves a purpose and does his job well.

Carlyle is already playing the defense you claimed he never would play this offseason, mess.

In fact, you told me I was crazy for thinking that Rielly would even make the team, let alone play at the same time as Gardiner.

You were also shocked that when Fraser was injured, a physical defensive dman like Holzer, MacWilliam or Granberg wasn't called up.

Time to start facing reality, my friend.

Uhhh lol naw you need to start facing reality my friend.

Reality being, Fraser is gonna play which means someone will sit out, wether you like it or not.

You clearly dont understand the intangibles that fraser brings, so there's no point arguing with us. Go argue it with carlyle, who is surely gonna play him once he is back.

it was only a matter of time before Rielly went in. we all know that.

and Rielly's not coming out for Fraser.

Lol yeah it was only a matter of time before reilly went in.....FOR RANGER. Because ranger was playing like pure GARBAGE during the time.

If anything, ranger should be sending fraser "Thank you" cards because if it wasnt for Fraser's injury, ranger wouldnt even be in the lineup right now.

Guess which Leafs Dman lead the Leafs in hits and blocked shots, fights and +/- last season?

I bet you Carlyle can tell you without looking it up.

PS: Nevermind just Leaf Dmen, Fraser was #2 overall in Hits (153) & #15 overall in Blocked Shots (102), #6 overall in +/- and #1 overall in PIMs by Dmen last season. Sure appears as top 6 capable numbers. ;)

by blocked shots, of course.

Blocked Shots per game, 2013-14 (Min 5gms):

1.A.McDonald 3.33
2.N.Grossman 3.00
3.R.Polak 2.86
4.C.Gunnarsson 2.80
5.J.Gorges 2.80

Gunnarsson has averaged 2.11 blocks per game over this season and last season. Anything over 2 per game makes you one of the better shotblockers around.

I guess we've finally found something he excels at.

Is a block counted when the effort is made to block it or if you're just hit with the puck?
I've never noticed him doing anything more than the other defenseman when it comes to blocking shots.

Phaneuf Franson and Gunnarsson will be in every game. After that, it will be a combo of the other 4. Not sure why so many are making a big deal about Fraser vs Ranger or whatever. Both will get plenty of ice time.

I really like what Fraser brings to the table. Being how or D is shaped I wish we had one additional tough stay at home dman similar to fraser. This way we could play 4 offensive defensemen and 2 tougher stay at home guys every night. It would even stuff out on our back end-that's for sure.

Ranger was better than Fraser on the marlies, and has been better than Fraser on the leafs.

Why would Randy make his team worse?

Agreed..Mark Fraser stands alone in the style of play he plays on the backend. He is truly the only tough defender Toronto has. Phaneuf is great at open ice hits but I hardly consider him tough.

Not a very well balanced D, IMO. Too many guys with similar skills.

Randy definitely could tell you all that without looking it up.

You know what he could also tell you without looking it up? How much ice time he gave Fraser last year.

1.Phaneuf 25:11
2.Kostka 22:05
3.Gunnar 21:17
4.Gardiner 20:29
5.Franson 18:47
6.Liles 18:46
7.Holzer 18:30
8.O'Byrne 17:11
9.Fraser 16:57
10.Komisarek 15:21

and in the playoffs:

1.Phaneuf 25:22
2.Gardiner 23:01
3.Franson 22:49
4.Kostka 22:22
5.Gunnar 22:05
6.Fraser 18:26
7.Liles 15:25
8.O'Byrne 15:14

And in his one healthy game this year:

1.Phaneuf 27:01
2.Franson 25:27
3.Ranger 19:38
4.Gardienr 19:00
5.Gunnar 18:35
6.Fraser 10:37

Ranger was very strong last game against the Ducks. Hoping for more of the same. Fraser gives Carlyle an option, who sits depends on many things; who stinking the joint out when he returns, who is not the captain, a young player hitting a wall, too many offensive defensemen against physical opponents, will probably see a platoon between everyone not named Phaneuf, unless someone goes on a tear where they are clearly not coming out of the lineup.

I'll repeat " Fraser was #2 overall in Hits (153) & #15 overall in Blocked Shots (102), #6 overall in +/- and #1 overall in PIMs by Dmen last season".

Pretty impressive indeed for a player playing 15 minutes a night to be among the league leading Dmen in defensive categories like hits and blocked shots, fighting majors etc.

What a perfect #6 dman now making just $1.2 mil and cap friendly to boot.

You have to wonder why Dmen playing many more minutes can not achieve the same results statistically he does when measuring defensive dmen abilities.

Who else wouldn't mind seeing Ranger get benched in favor of Fraser, when he's back.

Franson has been our second worst defenseman, strictly talking defense. Ranger is EASILY our worst IMO.

I really don't get the hate, the guy is a +/- of +4, started out poorly but seems to have gotten a little better lately.

Franson has made alot of blunders as well, he just doesn't get hate because he is really good offensively.

theyre both bottom pairing guys playing like bottom pairing guys basically.

Fraser is the Leafs worst D if you play him over 20mins a game. He gets exposed by first and second liners because he's just too slow. Fraser does fine if we only play him 12-15mins a game and match him up against bottom sixers.
