He's been an excellent goalie for the past 4 seasons, so you have a lot of games to choose from. Not to take anything away from him, but let’s see how he does against a team that can actually score. And no, he’s not a HOFer.

Pffff, only 50% of his games were a shutout. Loser.4-0
.977 SV %
0.75 GAA
2 SOs
Garbage.
Confession time: I actually cringed a bit with all the MAF talk during the off-season, remembering the shaky playoff series he had as a Pen, but it looks like a good goalie coach and being depended upon more than in the past has him reborn. In Pittsburgh, he was supposed to keep numbers down while Crosby and Malkin tore up the other team. In Vegas he is the difference maker and he has looked dialed in all season. Would be a Vezina candidate if he had been injury free.
So the proper way to develop him all along was to have a 20 year old kid come in and steal his job?It all comes down to how the Penguins managed his development. Basically did everything wrong from his rookie season to 2014.

This is a somewhat of a false revisionist history. The Penguins play in the playoffs more often than not (2012) was more than adequate. Fleury simply did not come through in 2010, 2013, 2014. 2015 wasn't bad, then Murray came to town in 2016. He gets one game and blows it. 2017, he was great and since being in LV, he's been great.
2012 was a complete dumpster fire team wide, yes, but Fleury led that charge as well.
Don't kid yourself, the MAF you see right now is NOT the MAF the Pens saw the VAST majority of the time from him in the playoffs.

2010 MTL series, 2012 Flyers series. 2013 Islanders series. 2014 Columbus series (before being pulled for Vokoun).
This.
At the end of the day, there has been a tremendously marked improvement in his play - especially in the playoffs - since he started seeing his sports psychologist over the summer of 2013.
Playoff splits?
2003-2013 - 45-34, 2.73 GAA, .903 SV%, 6 SO
2014-now - 14-11, 2.15 GAA, .931 SV%, 4 SO
I know the latter is a about 1/3 the sample size, but the difference is numbers is astounding.

all we needed was adequate goaltending to beat montreal, philly, and the islanders, we did not need hasek and i'm not saying they should've won the cups i'm saying they had no chance with goal play like that
people don't call him the worst playoff goalie they ever saw for nothing, yeah he has some stats every player has stats after 15 years in the league and wins are not what they used to be considering ties no longer exist, he was the reason opposing fans went into every series thinking they have a chance against a heavily favored pens team
mini miracle he didn't flame out? he was the number 1 overall pick so lets not pretend the odds were stacked against him he was given every chance in the world to reach his potential
i understand very well why people like him, it's you that doesn't understand why people don't like him
The bolded is just false. He was the #1 overall selection whom the Penguins didn't even develop correctly. They never hired an actual goalie coach until Bales in 2013 or 2014. Meloche was a friend of Mario's who would tell him it was just bad puck luck etc and not actually work on his game. They started him with the big club and then they sent him back to the minors because they couldn't afford his bonuses. It was probably one of the worst ways you could actually develop a goalie. It's hilarious that you actually think the Penguins did everything they could to help him reach his potential
He seems like a really nice guy, getting out of Pittsburgh helps too. It’s weird to me he gets hated on as much as he does. Never heard anyone say anything bad about him personality wise and now he’s doing great after agreeing to go to an expansion team. I cheer for him every time as long as it’s not against Anaheim
I put a lot of emphasis on the players on ice results being largely due to the player, and the player only. Sometimes success or failure comes from within, not from outside sources.Somebody is really deep in thought this morning.
No, he really didnt. He seems like a really nice guy, getting out of Pittsburgh helps too.
It was easy to laugh at him because his play cost Pittsburgh a couple of good playoff runs.

it's not everybody it's just yinzer fanboys in pittsburgh, most of the hockey world agrees with me
he just played the best playoff series of his life, he does well when there's no pressure
