Yea the number 2 scorer is such a lazy argument. Also, Rantanen’s production advantage on Point at ES is basically just a few secondary assists, and while he’s more productive on the PP, Kucherov also gets to play with Stamkos on the PP, who has clearly regressed at ES but is still an elite PP finisher.

Ok and Mackinnon benefits significantly more playing with Makar who is a far better offensive defenseman than Hedman at this point. Hedman's really just picking up points from Kucherovs plays. Can't imagine the space could get playing with someone who can actually move on blueline and get shots through.

Give Kucherov Rantanen, Drouin and Makar and he'll produce the exact same or more. Sit there with a straight face and tell Mackinnon could do more with Point, Stamkos and Hedman. Yeah exactly.

I personally hope MacKinnon wins it, but I could easily argue for Kucherov being way more important to his teams success.

Seems like a year that both guys easily could win it and deserve it. Flip a coin.

Imagine looking back and you see 2 guys hit 100 assists, 1 guy hits 70 goals, and none of those 3 win the Hart.

Mackinnon is the Hart trophy favorite up until Matthews/McDavid/Kucherov breakthrough.

No no no, head on over to the Norris thread if you need enlightenment on this topic. Mackinnon is the reason Makar is where he’s at. Without Mack, he would be second pairing at best and that alone should show how valuable Mackinnon is. He can take a second pairing defenseman and turn him into a Norris contender. Kuch can’t even do this for Hedman. He’s not as valuable.

Mack will probably win it and that's justified.

Without Kucherov, the Bolts are still in the playoffs.
Without McJesus the Oilers are still probably a playoff team.
Without Matthews the Leafs are still probably a playoff team.
Without Pasta the Bruins are still probably a playoff team.

The Hart goes to the player that is most essential to their teams success period, the end all be all reason a team is in the playoffs.

Low key suggesting Quinn Hughes should get some votes because the top 5 candidates for the Hart are all there for a reason based on their scoring prowess, but their teams would still be there without them by and large. But without Quinn Hughes Vancouver is fighting for a playoff spot or a top 5 pick.

Not saying he will win or should win, just saying he should be part of the conversation.

Kucherov is an absolute beast and has been unreal this year. But I believe (IMO only) that the bolts would be fighting for a playoff spot still. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not. His stats are unreal this year but the Bolts are still a solid team with a Vasilevsky behind them and they're my dark horse in the east

Vasy has been awful this season and didn't even play first half of the season. Hedman isn't the same anymore. Makar is far better than him.

This year's Hart Trophy race has already been decided, the voters are going to definitely give it to MacKinnon.

Without Kucherov, the Bolts are still in the playoffs. - Not a chance
Without McJesus the Oilers are still probably a playoff team. - Even worse than TB. Look at their start.
Without Matthews the Leafs are still probably a playoff team. - 50/50 Prob not
Without Pasta the Bruins are still probably a playoff team. - Prob still make the playoffs .

Matthews will get the Hart, as he should. Im not a Toronto fan, but 69 or whatever he ends up with is so crazy you cant compete with it.
Sorry, but goals shouldn't just trump anything else. Otherwise, you're basically saying a playmaker is never and can never be more valuable than a goal scorer.

These guys finished neck and neck in points, so it's a zero sum argument. Why wasn't Kucherov better against worse teams? Does he not try in games against poorer opponents?
