The anti-Johnny crowd aren't very happy at all, and several anxious hockey fans have written here that he was hyped too much, nervous because they know it's impossible to over-hype Johnny Gaudreau.

Flame fans deserve it they have shoved Johnny hockey down our throats as the next great thing in hockey. Johnny Omark at best.

Shoved down your throats? To read discussions about him, you have to click on a thread with his name on it. So perhaps you should stop shoving him down your own throat... just a thought.

If JG is a bust for not scoring in 3 games, then by that same logic Joe Colborne is an elite 1st line center.

Nothing against Gaudreau, but in the highly unlikely scenario presented above, what team wouldn't choose a 6'5" 220lb elite centre over a diminutive skill winger?

As a fellow Flames fan, I would choose Colborne every day of the freaking leap year over Gaudreau if extrapolation over a tiny sample size would ring true... :naughty:

He seems to be overwhelmed 5-on-5 at this point. Defenders are too big and too fast for him to handle right now. He definitely needs an extended period to adjust, and is probably better suited to playing in the AHL at this point. That said, his PP opportunities have been limited by the coaching staff, and PP is where Johnny excels. There's little wonder as to why our PP is as bad as it is.

I fully expect the haters to chirp Gaudreau, and it'll be even worse if/when he gets demoted to the AHL. It's the way things are with small players; you have to prove yourself before anyone will take you seriously. Smaller skilled players don't get the same benefit of doubt that larger players do. It's up to Johnny to overcome this obstacle the same way he has overcome every obstacle since he was a 14 year old kid.

Numbers would suggest that Gaudreau played just fine ES last night. 2 scoring chances created, 2 scoring chances against. In fact, that ratio was better than 95% of the rest of the team.

Monahan for example was +2 and -8. The only players with positive differentials were Brodie and Gio.

Gaudreau needs to be given more opportunity before Hartley sends him to Adirondack so he can play his vets.

This thread is funny. The Flame fans were not the ones who named him Johnny Hockey or did all the hyping! I see a lot of tongue in cheek posts and see that JG has a lot of other fans from down east. He's a fun prospect.

I still wonder why he is up in the NHL. He is simply not ready. Offensively he is not effective yet as guys easily shut him down. Defensively he doesn't seem to care and floats around. He should be in the ahl to round his game out and adjust to pro hockey.

At this point he's a pp specialist, which is no issue. But he's like an omark, once you start to play him more at 5 on 5 you run into issues

Seems like he's being rushed like bartschi was early on and Monahan last season.

I mean, what is location, really
I think the issue here is that Gaudreau, as Johnny Hockey, is playing hockey... but everybody else isn't. They're playing this ugly hockey-like sport on ice. So if the other guys start to play hockey, then Gaudreau will play hockey with them, and obviously he'll rip it up... because he's Johnny Hockey. But otherwise, you won't see it on the scoresheet, because it's not hockey, and Gaudreau playing hockey would only show up on hockey scoresheets, which they are not using. and Johnny Hockey refuses to play anything other than hockey. You dig?

Yes, he scored a lot his first 9 games, but the remainder of the season he got creamed. He played the easiest minutes with decent linemates but got out shot by a shocking amount. It was apparant he needed to go down to the ahl or back to OHL. His corsirel was almost the worst on a bottom feeder. That is not good

As much as people rip on eberle for poor defensive play, he's never had as poor of a corsirel as Monahan ever.
