Why doesn't he center his own line then?
He has been. Although it makes no sense to trade a first overall pick. A team getting it has so many needs and holes in the lineup, they likely have more lottery picks to come. Its a dumb idea to trade it.

Since the start of the season how many games has he centered his own line? How many have they won? How many points does he have 5on5 when he is the supposed driver of his own line and not leeching off McDavid?

1 goal and 1 assist in his last 6.

Well he is on his own line now, what success that will bring is another topic, I was replying to the topic on hand, which makes no sense.

Dahlin is a generational dman, there's no chance Draisaitl (post ELC) gets you a sniff of him.

I doubt anything outside McDavid gets him. If Edmonton is gift wrapped Dahlin, nothing gets him, not even Matthews who's about the only player I'd consider.

No team is going to make that trade. They're not going to trade a cost controlled generational defenseman for a center who's not a center who makes 8.5 million a year. And if they make that kind of trade the Oilers would have to take 5 to 6 million back in contract disposal.

He must be a McDavid level then

Cause there arent many worth more than Drais even at the NHL level.

It's the same reason oiler fans wouldn't trade McDavid for Crosby or anyone else when he first came into the league. 3 years of ELC compared to 8.5 mil (?) for Drai, who hasn't shown he's a #1 center yet (since Mcd gets the hard matchup when they're not playing together)

Somebody just compared Dahlin to Lidstrom... No longer interested.

The last three guys to be compared to Lidstrom, while all good D-men, haven't even come close.

Can't help but feel Dahlin is getting a tad overhyped when he hasn't even stepped foot on NHL ice yet.

It's just like McDavid was at the same age.

You knew he would be good. Everything about Dahlin is good. Eye test, advanced stats, primary stats, NHL comparables (at the same age). This kid is world-class. Makes players much older and bigger then himself look utterly foolish.

It all comes down to one question, would you trade McDavid (pre-draft) for Draisaitl?

Even as German who shares Leon's hometown - yeah, no, he doesn't fetch you Dahlin.

Well, that just about settles it for the next guy. Too bad.

Seriously, it speaks to Lidstrom's greatness that he's the benchmark people use when an outstanding talent comes along. It doesn't take anything away from him, and it doesn't take anything away from Dahlin. The last guys that got those comparisons weren't as deserving as he is, in my opinion and the eyes of many/most.

Yeah i can't wait until the end of April, Whatever lucky team winds up with the #1 overall pick there's going to be some crazy offers out there. Would love for it to be Detroit.
Yes, the pick itself. But on here? I disagree. It's going to be hell, just watch.
The most asinine proposals will be comung you way on daily basis.

The Dahlin hype is getting out of control.

Past #1 overall Defensemen.
  • 2014 - Aaron Ekblad
  • 2006 - Erik Johnson
  • 1996 - Chris Phillips
  • 1995 - Bryan Berard
  • 1994 - Ed Jovanovski
  • 1992 - Roman Hamrlik
Just based on how these other picks turned out if a team could get a king's ransom for Dahlin it might be worth the gamble.

Button said recently that Dahlin is to defensemen what McDavid and Matthews are to centers

I would not swap Dahlin for Drai, even though Dahlin has not yet reached the nhl
