We know that Babs doesn't like rotating guys in and out of the lineup. So, who else plays the mannequin in your opinion?

Lou hasn't said he won't trade Leivo, he said Leivo didn't ask him for a trade. Big difference.
Babs has no problem rotating the D , he just has a huge problem playing Levio and makes up endless excuses for why he doesn't .

He will do it if he has to as is the case with our crappy defense. He absolutely knows Leivo is no fit for this team.

Martin? Or any of Marlies depth guys.

I just think the idea of the Leafs not valuing leivo at all (ie that he’s a practice pylon) doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. THere’s obviously some degree of organizational interest in him, otherwise they would have just let him walk without a contract extension.

Martin was a starter up until fairly recently, but ya, he's definitely a mannequin now. You need two though. It's hard to find guys who take that role well. Leivo used to take it well, but now that he has spoken out he will need to be moved.

Any contract below the $1.025M threshold this year and next is as easily discarded as stick tape after a game. The bigger surprise was, why did Leivo sign it? It makes no sense unless he doesn't think he's guaranteed to be offered a one way contract by anyone else next season.

Again, wouldn’t have wasted the capspace and contract slot if they didn’t value him. They could have signed anyone for that role in the offseason.

The fact that Lou flat out rejected the trade request claim imo is a clear sign theeafs likely have zero interest in moving him anytime soon.

Really not sure how you made that connection. Lou just said he hasn't said anything to me and he only said that to shut the story down.

He drew the PP that led to one of our goals in a one goal game, and over 70% of the shot attempt share was ours when he was on the ice, against one of the best teams in the league. That's not doing nothing.

I have no idea what some people expect from Leivo. They think he should be putting up big goals or assists or dominate the few times he plays. He played with Moore and Komarov on the fourth line.

He was more than fine yesterday and that's after months of not playing. He's definitely got NHL qualities to his game and the Leafs would be wise to use him more down the stretch, or make sure they aren't giving him up for nothing.

"He didn't do anything" --- lol... give me a break.

I don’t see any reason for the Leafs to trade him. He is signed for next year and with JVR likely gone he has a legitimate shot at top 9 minutes next year. He’s also a good insurance policy in case injuries hit for this years playoff run. If he lets players like Johnsson surpass him on the depth chart it’s on him.

True. He's not flashy like Kapanen, but its not like Kap is coming up with more results either. Its what happens when you are merely a good player and stuck on the 4th line. Its not like either Nylander or Marner produced as per normal when they were slotted down there with Moore/Martin/Komorov either.

Got in a really big game and did nothing. This is why he's not in the lineup every day.

nothing?

the 4th line dominated.

Moore 10cf/2ca, 7scf/0sca
Kapanen 11cf/2ca, 7scf/0sca
Leivo 8cf/3ca, 7scf/0sca

might be the best 4th line game we've had all season.

which isn't surprising, given that that's the best 4th line we've iced all season.

not to mention he drew the penalty that led to our tying goal in the 2nd
considering he gets barely any minutes and it's his first game in months, people are way too quick to write him off. it's idiotic frankly

His skating needs more work. He has the hands, but it seems his feet can't consistently keep up with the play.

Won't be sad if he leaves as he deserves a better shot somewhere than he's getting here though.

He’s a professional whose lost his job to a better, younger players. It happens.

No more guaranteed roster spots, no more blue and white disease. Martin will get his chance to play again with another team.

They shut down the story because they care what happens to him as an asset (and likely see him potentially playing a role with the team next year). They wouldn’t have done these things if they just felt he was a practice pylon.

Babcock regularly played Tomas Holmstrom. The man did not skate good, or well. Leivo skates well enough.
