I don't think we'll see much beyond what we've seen up to this point.
Nylander will be signed, look for another Hainsey UFA, maybe a Bozak or something else, let the young players develop. Whatever we draft, same thing, develop.
That's about it. Nothing along the lines of massive trades + massive UFA names I see here.

It scores at the same pace as with Nylander. The only other option is Kappy but then you forsake Nylander completely. Depends if you want balance or a super line.

The Hyman-Brown combo is at 48.52 CF%, the Hyman-Nylander is at 51.27 CF%. I do agree Matthews should be getting the Crosby treatment with two skilled defensive forecheckers but I disagree that those two should be Hyman-Brown. Crosby does get grinders to play with but he gets grinders with good hands. I'd go with Johnsson-Brown.

Johnsson - Matthews - Brown
Marleau - Kadri - Marner
Hyman - Nylander - Kapanen

Johnsson Brown could work and leaves the Kadri line to be pretty damn good. They need to give things an honest shot next season either way.

Marleau* - Kadri - Kapanen
Hyman - Lindholm - Leivo

Rielly - Andersson
Dermott - Zaitsev

Trade: Brown + Bracco/Timashov/Sparks for Rasmus Andersson
Gardiner (50%) to St. Louis for Jordan Schmaltz, and 2nd round pick (45)

2018 Draft
25: Ryan Merkley

This account must belong to Babcock cause he's got Hainsey doing double duty already.

You can sign Tavares all we want, that D ain’t winning us anything. Use the Tavares money to upgrade the damn D and you posted Hainsey twice.

Can’t saddle Matthews with two grinders. Kapanen or Marner with him for sure. Hainsey can not play top pairing minutes next year if this team expects to compete.

Could be right.

Hyman Matthews Kapanen
Johnsson Kadri Marner
Marleau Nylander Brown

I'd be happy with that.

This I would like to see.
Brown is fine but this is where it would be nice to have a solid PWF. A Simmonds or someone else who plays like Hornqvist.

Those poster who actually think Tavares will sign with leafs are the same poster who thought Stamkos is coming to Toronto. Stop with that please

I'm not saying that Tavares is coming here, or that he isn't. The one thing for sure though is Tavares' and Stamkos' situations have almost nothing similar about them.

With what we have right now, I would start out like this and see how it goes:

Brown - Matthews - Marner
Marleau - Kadri - Hyman
Johnnson - Nylander - Kapanen
Martin - Aaltonen - Leivo

Andersson has never played more than 10 games in a season in the NHL and you want to throw him right onto the top pairing? Not a good development path for a defender to do that.

Marleau Nylander Brown

I'd be happy with that.

After seeing how well Hyman played on his natural side with Johnsson on the left, I think a Johnsson-Matthews-Hyman line should be given a chance. And I'd also look at trying a Grundstrom-Nylander-Kapanen 3a speed line running at about the same minutes as a 3B Leivo-Altonnen-Brown posession line.

That could work well too. Pre season will be pretty interesting I imagine.

Then switch him and Zaitsev. Either way we're not going to be in an idea situation whatever we do.

If Nylander is moved to centre partly out of necessity I could see the forward lines
Grundstrom, Matthews, Marner
Johnson, Nylander, Hyman
Marleau, Kadri, Kapanen
Leivo/Martin/Aaltonen, Brown.

Grunstrom the rookie plays wth two vets. Hyman remains digger role only with Nylander and Johnson.

Since there is probably no RHD on available this summer. Maybe Dermot goes to the right along with Zaitsev and Hainsey. Reilly, Gardiner and Borgman at LHD. Still a development year.

Hasn't been great? He's done exactly what he was brought to do and then did more in the playoffs.
Also Bab's boys? Lou signed him.

Yes - in March, after about 60 games, I didn't think much of his season. Came good in the playoffs.

The GM signs everyone. The coach has his favorites. Marleau is one of the coach's boys.

I was wondering what the zone start differences were? I.e. was Matthews starting more shifts in the offensive zone when Nylander and Hyman were on his wing compared to when he was with Brown and Hyman?

As zone starts can drastically change the perception of a raw shot differential stat like Corsi
