I don't know if this has already been posted in a different thread but man did this ever make me feel good [hopeful]

Can't wait for Rielly and Gardiner to get the green light.

Edwards predicts Toronto’s road to improvement following a similar path to that of the Bruins in their prime. Under Babcock, Toronto’s team defence is the best it’s been in 12 years (small sample size alert). Not since 2002-03 have the Leafs surrendered as few as the 2.64 goals per game they’re allowing now.

By 2017-18, right around the time skilled forward prospects William Nylander and Mitch Marner are NHL-ready, Toronto will be ready to deploy some offence to complement that discipline in their own zone.

“That’s exactly what Babcock is doing in Toronto,†Edwards says. “And in the third year, I’m telling you, they’re going to shock people who haven’t been watching.

stick to the plan, no shortcuts, I trust Hunter and co at the draft and then hopefully when we're ready Babcock and Shanahan can recruit some big name free agents to support the kids.

Pretty sure Nylander will be up after Leafs have played 43 games. And Marner should be ready by next season. Not sure what what he means by NHL-ready in 2017.

Valiev will be in the team over Harrington I think. I really like his game and think he will be a big part of our team.

My roster:
Brown--Stamkos-Marner
Nylander-Kadri-Kapanen
Leivo-Holland-Komarov
Winnik-Gauthier-UFA

Rielly-Chychrun
Gardiner-Phaneuf
Percy/Harrington/Dermott/Loov/Zaitsev?

Gibson
Reimer

10 rookies? Not likely.

Zaitsev and stamkos sign as ufas stamkos takes and hometown discount.
Trade made with JVR for Gibson+ basis
Draft Chychrun

Yeah not too sure about the D. Really depends on how they develop. I like Loov too

edit: also forgot Zeitsev. Roster posted above this post is also really good

Two years from now, that is not a cup contender. It likely isn't even a play-off team.

5-6-7-9 years down the road it could be a cup contender though.

Those comments are cancerous. I don't know what I expected.

In any case I don't think the Leafs are trying to emulate Boston or any other team for that matter this time around. Teams that tried to become more Bruins-like in the past few years have suffered more than benefited. The type of team the Leafs will be is to be determined yet. And if done right teams are going to want to copy us.

Oh god I've given up on reading sportsnet's comment section. I mean...that place is toxic for discussion.

Yeah, I'm sure they aren't trying to emulate Boston. Just that the Leafs from that person's point of view are moving in a similar direction. Not really a bad thing considering how good Boston has been for quite a while (well until this point).

Nothing wrong with moving in a positive direction.

So for the next two years the Leafs make 1 FA signing and 0 trades.

Yes, we will also have all our draft picks in the NHL. Everyone we pick is an NHL'er. 100%.

Dermott, Timashov, Dzierkals etc are good prospects but I've learned from my Matt Finn mistake. I watched him a lot in Guelph and thought he would be a stud if he improved his skating along the way. Instead, he just kept getting worse.

Am I the only one who remembers how he was supposed to be a top 20 pick? He's basically a bust like Biggs now.

Out of all the players we drafted this year in the later rounds, I think Timashov is the most likely to be in the NHL. He played very well at training camp (better than even Marner) but it's hard to predict players like that...

I'll be happy if half of our draft picks pan out and half of those turn into impact players.

Come on that's easily a playoff team. Probably the best top six in the NHL too.

The D isn't great unless Rielly continues his development but that team easily makes the playoffs...

Reimer won't be here and Sparks won't be the starter, MAYBE the backup.

As for Kadri if he doesn't start producing he won't be here either.

That's my prediction in 2 years based on what's available in the organization now... I think that team could do some damage in the playoffs.

Me too.

This article comes up pretty much preaching patience, and everyone uses it to post how were going to over spend on the first big FA that comes available.

I mean if he hits UFA I do expect them to put the full court press on.

That said I still think he signs with Tampa
