I agree Jiricek in those last two games was a force for them and the best overall D. Don't get me wrong I like them both, I just think when Svozil arrives here next year he'll really impress the fans that don't know who he is yet.

My prediction is he starts in the AHL next year and could be a mainstay on the NHL roster by Christmas. He's had a full year of playing in North America under his belt but on top of that was a force in the WHL most nights.
Played pro in Europe too! So he has played against Men before.. obviously, Extraliga is a far cry from NHL but he does have that experience. I think he'll get a good look at training camp for the world's too... Czechs are down a lot of D going into this one. Our D is bad to begin with. Jiricek made the team last season and would be Top 4 this season if Cleveland gets eliminated.

Call me crazy but I might like him more than Jiricek. I've seen almost every Monsters game this year and David has been very steady, but what Svozil has done in Regina and the snippet last night was very impressive. I've seen about 15 Pats games this year and the way he processes the game will translate well to the NHL. He has a great shot, good motor, and not afraid to attack in the O zone. He hasn't been a defensive liability in doing so because he can get back into the play and uses his stick to disrupt plays in the Neutral zone or at the line. He's also tough to beat 1v1. He scored some very very timely goals for Regina in that series vs Saskatoon.

Last night right off the bat first shift he took a D to D pass from Boqvist in his own zone, picked his head up and fired a cross ice stretch pass to the winger, same shift he took a pass of the wall and got a good wrister on net. Was a few plays where he showed he wasn't afraid to jump into the rush and was even behind the net a few times. Was comfortable on the power play and for sure can be a future power play qb on this team.

I think he will be the better offensive catalyst and his D game is no slouch, he will need to adjust to the NHL but the way he uses his stick is right up there with Jiricek.

Both these guys are ahead of Ceulemans for me, by a decent margin too.

He was making plays last night and looked terrific.

But I think this might be a case where first game adrenaline masks the immaturity of the player. Svozil has had a lot of games for the Pats where his motor and his puck decisions have lagged. My guess is that his need for gym time will be more apparent if he's in the NHL in the Fall. Of course maybe he'll cover that gap in the offseason.

This is a fair take I'm with you.

I think next year he has a shot of making the team out of camp and staying up. He isn't perfect, but he's been getting better and better. This year his defense has also gotten a lot better. Great on the PP like always and has a great shot. Good vision. He was somewhat unlucky this year in the AHL and still often times looked like a great D on the ice. Predicting now that if he does end up in the A for another year that he explodes offensively and is given a lot more time and responsibility. As of now this may be a hot take but think he's most NHL ready d prospect the Jackets have and may currently be better than Jiricek.

He's got a lot of competition next year. Werenski and Provorov are a lock barring a trade and Mateychuk looked like he could've made the team out of camp LAST season and he's done nothing but elevate his game this season. In a perfect world Mateychuk is fighting Provorov for a spot(but that's probably getting ahead of myself)

It wouldn't be such a bad thing for Svozil and Jiricek munch first line minutes in Cleveland next year. That gives time for the Jackets to make a decision on Provorov. Guys like Svozil should only be in the NHL if they've forced their way on. Whether that's from camp or a injury call up IDC.

Svozil is developing well but it feels like he is further away from winning a job, just because of how well Mateychuk has developed. Mateychuk is almost certainly going to be in the NHL and it's hard to imagine them breaking in two rookie LD at the same time. I could see Provorov traded but I can't see two rookie LD.

And Svozil's offense exploding next year in Cleveland sounds great. I really don't have a problem with a young D getting that extra seasoning and taking a step.

I agree, but Mateychuk still has yet to play against men. It's a pretty big step to go from the WHL to the AHL, and an even bigger step to go to the NHL (though certainly possible). It's also an even bigger step to go from a player who hasn't played against men in a whole season to playing 82 games of it, and personally I'd rather see a prospect get that experience and know a little more about what it's going to be like and the impact on their body it'll have. I believe Mateychuk is eligible for the AHL next year, I think he should be given the chance (just like Svozil and Jiracek) to impress out of camp and get at least 9 games with the team, but I also think it would benefit him to play at least 20-40 games in the AHL, if he's still looking like he does in the Dub, then for sure bring him up.

Svozil I think currently at least has the best chance of the 3 at handling NHL level forwards and playing decent defense, not needing to be sheltered and not being a detriment at times.

By no means do I think Svozil has the highest upside or that he's going to hit the highest peak, but I would prefer that more development time be given to all of these guys. I'd be perfectly happy with another year in the A for Svozil too. Just think he's arguably the most NHL ready (coaches love their defensive guys) and therefore has a semi decent chance of making the team.
