If they re-sign him in 2 years, something went terribly wrong.
37 for a potential 24-25 season, won't make even half the $7m in cash he's got coming in 23-24, and isn't chasing a Cup. Retire, go back to beautiful Slovenia, and play in some Olympic type games. Even if he wanted to keep playing in the NHL, if the options for the Kings aren't better by July 2024, then they're not going to be looking like a contender.
This is assuming he falls completely off the map.. if in 2 years he’s still old reliable I don’t see why they wouldn’t do a 1 year deal for him.. and you’re right, he isn’t cup chasing but I doubt he’d give up the chance at another. Granted, a whole lot of things need to happen, mainly the kids finally fulfilling their promise.

Like Brown, I imagine Kopitar has free reign from the org to play as long as he wants.

If he’s fit and capable enough you’d certainly give him a 1 million per year to play 4C. Any team could use that experience and specialist knowledge for specific situations. If you need him to play a key role we absolutely would have major issues.

I just doubt Kopitar is playing for $1m in a 4C role at the age of 37 when he's not chasing a Cup. That's just another grind, for pennies compared to the $130m he's already made(or however much he's actually brought home), when your name is already on the Cup. He'll pass Brown in GP for the Kings. Isn't catching Robitaille in goals though. He'll have to have a couple more years of 60+ pts to even think about catching Dionne for pts, and that's only if he's not playing 4C for a year or two. He's already a Kings legend, but isn't Ovechkin chasing an all time league record.
It's the same with Brown. I don't see the Kings or Kopitar saying yes to that. Getzlaf too. If he doesn't have a Cup, he probably leaves Anaheim for a year or two, to get one last kick at the can. But he had one, so it's easier to close things out in one place when it's over. And he wasn't even their 4C this year.

Probably, I’m being hypothetical rather than anything else... in that there are scenarios where he plays without it being indicative of some wider failure. I certainly could see him playing on in a lesser role on a team expected to contend, with significantly less money going into his pocket. It depends on his desire for another ring with the Kings which is something none of us knows. The same may ultimately apply for DD.

Kopitar averaged 0.83 PPG this season, which is just off his career average of 0.88 PPG. What gives you the impressing he won’t be a quality 3rd line center in two years? Probably gonna be Michal Handzus quality still.

Posting this because I'm not sure too many of you saw it. Danault's agent (Stephane Fiset) said Bergevin sent out an offer early in the season but then didn't hear anything back from the entire rest of the season, thus why Danault went to the market.

Pretty wild to think Danault left a SCF team to sign with a team that hasn't sniffed playoffs in 3 years, with the last appearance being a sweep. What exactly did Rob Blake say/do to get him to sign?

Man, Bergevin offered Danault 5 years, $25 million and then never responded to Danault's counter. Just crazy. We got so f***ing lucky signing this guy.

Danault is an incredible 2-way playoff performer. He's just built for the playoffs and tight games. Any team in the playoffs right now that would of signed Danault, would of seen success.... he is just that good.
Imagine Colorado with Danault....I would guess a 16-0 run or very close to that and multi-year cups would not be so far fetched.

The youtube comments, that was hfb Montreal last 2 years, most of the posters. I was one of a very few who defended Danault. Today they (bashers) look like what, lol, Danault did scored goals, in fact more than any Habs player this year. Sweet revenge for me, the others guys like me, and Danault. He proved his point. I'm having fun watching he's in the + stats and he scored more g than Kopi. I guess McDavid and Drais are neutralised by Phil. He's an underestimated skater and hockey IQ player. He excells in face off and a lot of little details. He's a safe player in every situation. Pricey player in play offs. Defidenitivly worth his 5.5,
By some twisted angle too many hockey fans look at players contracts with a bureaucrat accounting approach.
I have to mention many Habs fan were thinking it was Gallagher who was the motor of the trio Danault-Gallagher-Tatar. Gallagher and Tatar are both busts today and Danault is even better today with two new teamates. You can read a lot of : "he's not worth more than 5 millions", that was unanimus opinion.

Montreal had a Cinderella story that year in the playoffs. They weren't really a juggernaut type team that you would expect to see a repeat performance. I think Danault heard what he wanted: we were willing to give him the number/years, he would have more of an offensive role and he saw the amount of talent we had and knew that we would contend sooner rather than later.
Love love love this guy. I'm getting his jersey this year 100%. Favorite player on the team.
