It probably should be Matthews, but I voted Karlsson because he's played great in the playoffs, whereas Matthews is a playoff zero.

I weigh playoff success more heavily than most fans.

Matthews has triple the amount of blocked shots than Bergeron. It's not like it's close.

Defensive players in general have more blocked shots than players who are not good defensively. No forward is close to as good as Bergeron anyway.

Since when did Matthews become a defensive player? He's an offensive force who should not spend his time blocking shots in his own zone. It's the exact same thing as with defencemen. Blocked shots is not a sign of good defence.

Yeah, that's why Kris Russel, one of the best players this league ever seen, is the all-time leader. Not because he constantly spent his time in his dzone and failed to recover the puck.

Kesler, Kopitar, Getzlaf and Bergeron are all in the top 10 for blocked shots for forwards all time so clearly they were just spending way too much time in their own zone then

Look at it 5v5 instead. All these players PK, Matthews don't. Matthews basically doubles the amount of blocked shots over the Selke candidates, Eriksson-Ek, Cirelli and most other good defensive players if you look since the start of the 20/21 season. Do you think it's a coincidence that it's Matthews, an aging Kopitar (who hasn't been good defensively for years) on a bad Kings team, Bonino, and many other players from the Sharks, Detroit, Columbus etc. who's in the top? Throw in some checking line players, most from non-playoff teams and the top 20 is complete.

So you’re assertion is that he has a lot of blocked shots because he spends so much time in his own zone yet a simple look at his possession metrics shows that’s ridiculous, not to mention nearly every other defensive stat there is.

Yes, that's correct and goes well along with the fact that he's got a massive amount of scoring chances against, which been posted about in several threads.
