Please name the few who can "easily" put up 20/20 next season?

There are only 10 guys who are likely to hit 40pts as rookies in the entire NHL this year, but apparently the Leafs are hiding a few of them for unknown reasons.
This is way to general a statement.
Deployment will matter a lot.

While I agree the term "easily" is a little flippant, there are a number of young players (not necessarily prospects) in the organization who could produce 20/20 with top 6 ice time. They include Connor Brown, Andreas Johnsson, and Kasperi Kapanen. Josh Leivo, if given consistent minutes, has the ability achieve that level of offensive production as well.

Leivo, Kapanen, Johnsson and Brown. All have the capability of hitting 20/20 or more next season given increased role and icetime. The Leafs are "hiding them" lower in the roster (and off the roster in Leivo's case) because of our forward depth on the wings.

Will they get a real opportunity to succeed or will Babs fight for more marginal veterans to fill those jobs?

Colorado could easily do 6.5MX5. I don't believe JVR will be a liability within the next 5 years and 6.5M won't hurt the AVS either.

Oh definitely.

Can Calgary do it cap wise?

Babs seems to love Brown,an Kappy Leivo not so much

Brouwer's gotta go, and then there's the upcoming Tkachuk contract. However, given that they were looking at Evander Kane earlier and there is that Burke-JVR connection, I wouldn't be surprised if they went after him.

Our real weak side is the RW, so I'm thinking Sam Bennett gets moved to a different position or ultimately traded. We like what he brings but also need way more production from him.

That's right you do have Burke, yup you are going after him, I can almost promise it

Right move. Hopefully Bozak is in the same boat.

I would have moved JVR for assets the second Marleau was signed in the off-season, but management really wanted to make a push this year and that's understandable. Marleau will likely finish with about 25-30 goals and only 10 points less than JVR but with much better defense and intangibles. That opening on the wing will be filled by Johnsson/Kapanen/Leivo/Grundstrom/etc.

Letting JVR/Bozak go not only gives a young ELC player a shot, but also the cap space to target Tavares/Thornton.

Not surprised, It was common sense to know JVR wouldn't take enough of a discount to make sense for Leafs front office.

Hate getting nothing for him but I guess he's essentially a self rental for the playoffs.

Yes thank god we are going to lose a 30+ goal scorer, Oh wait no that ****ing sucks
yah we lose a net front specialist who does nothing beyond 10 feet from the goal and save ourselves from an awful contract. best of both worlds

can't fit his contract in, after they sign Tavares
better chance he comes here than montreal

Maybe he will, but the leafs didn't end up trading for Glendenning, did they? And Babock doesn't appear to have a problem playing young players if they are defensively responsible and have a role open to fill. Kapanen is a regular now. Johnsson has been brought up. Komarov has been demoted to the 4th line along with Bozak on occasion of late and Martin has been stapled to the press box.

Not to mention that its not only JvRs 30-30 that's going. Also Komarov's 10-10 and likely Mat Martin's 5-5. Johnsson, Kapanen and Leivo have shown already they won't have much problem scoring 45 goals and getting 45 assists between the 3 of them when getting regular TOI. They're also a lot better defensively as a group than JvR and Martin as well.

Brown is already more or less a 20/20 guy. Saying Kapanen and his 9pts in 46 games or Leivo who can't even get into 20 games this year or Johnssson with 2 games of NHL experience can all "easily" score 20/20 Is optimistic to say the least.

Assuming the center depth is Matthews-Kadri-Nylander next year, it'll be really difficult not to score 40 points with one of those players, JVR's baby soft minutes, and his team-leading PP time.

Seriously, Marleau was my favorite player for my entire life before he left, but that's a bad decision by Toronto.

JVR wasn't taking a short term deal like Marleau so it's not quite an either or scenario. If he was in the long term plans / cap structure with the kids then it's pretty obvious Marleau wouldn't have been signed.
