Yeah Kyle Connor is a superstar and our most valuable forward. And has been basically since he arrived.

Ehlers is a great player too but simply not at the same level as Connor.

A very good day, in fact. And I loved the result. But the substance of my criticism of the man stands. We know Stanley is PB material; our coach does not. And citing this as one of this anachronistic ways seems fair given his other “old-fashioned” folly.

So yeah, Stanley needs to be traded so he can’t be played.
Like Wheeler. Coach cant play him on the top line if he isnt here.

He was actively crossing over away from Mackinnon as he was left in the dust. Everyone is saying other players got beat too (and let's be honest, Mackinnon is REALLY good), but that was embarrassing.
You don't need to be embarrassed when one of the best players in the world makes a #7/8 dman look really bad -
The gap between these 2 skill levels is almost unmeasurable.
It's almost like the bench mark for a guy slotting in as the 6th dman on this team is to be able to handle Mac - on every play.
MacKinnon will do that to much better players than Stan - and he does it on a nightly basis.

Stan is likely being showcased - and the coach appears to have dropped him into a really tough matchup in support of that (and also did it against the Cannes - we won both I guess in spite of Stan) - but anyone watching with interest in Stan (trade), is likely no where near as critical as the haters - they certainly are not saying "Mac beat him bad - he's pretty useless" - because if that is the measuring stick used to evaluate bottom pairing Dmen, most would fail the test.
Slotting him in against the Blackhawks or Sharks wouldn't be much of a test or the type of test an interested team would want to see.

Some on here think the coach is a dino for dropping him in - that same bunch should try to understand that if we want to trade this player for the best return possible, he needs to put him in game situations that will test him. And everyone should try to understand that Stan is not our 6th D - he's the 7/8 who is getting ice time possibly in support of a trade.

If the Jets are looking to trade this player, they are doing what they need to do.
And if many on here want him traded, they should be happy that he was able to come out of 2 very tough games against top teams (that we won) surprisingly well.

Sometimes it's just about a dislike for a player that leaves some unable to see the forest for the trees (pun intended).

Ehlers also plays against weaker opponents as they match the best defensive players to shut down the first line.

Also id say finishing is more important than possession numbers. Being able to skate around with the puck on your stick doesn’t mean much if you aren’t finishing with the puck in the opponents net. Finishing the play being the hardest part.

Also, hardly the only thing kc does. He is a good playmaker and his d has been much improved.
Ehlers has benefited from a hot perfetti finishing.
Good problem having both.
This version of Adam da bomb is making great points.

Jets played a Stanley Cup calibre team, and won that game with a great effort, and led the whole game. They did not sit back on the lead, and kept pushing, which really impressed me.

That 2nd line is slow, and could cause problems. Villardi is a big body, but he's slow, and Perfetti isn't a speedster. We're really missing Namestikov or Ehlers on that 2nd line, and I hope they make an adjustment there.

All around a great effort by the jets, for 3 in a row now, and still rolling, and maybe could make it 5 or 6. Team is looking oood, and these depth guys acquired, and new signings, are causing our goals against to drop, which is a really good sign. The Jets can be competitive with any team, and have a good chance of winning the Central -- just need to be consistent. Hope they get Names back soon, for that 2nd line.
All great points. Especially about the part about their not sitting back on a lead. That was the most fun I had watching a game in a long time.

A statement win of the young season? It sure looked and
felt like it, as the Winnipeg Jets came here to Avalanche country on
Thursday night and skated away with an impressive 4-2 victory over
Colorado.

No, it wasn’t always pretty, and you can always find things to pick
apart. But perfection is the enemy of progress, as Winston Churchill
famously said, and the Jets have been taking several big steps lately.

This feels like one of the largest, a tightly-contested battle of
Central Division rivals that had a playoff-style intensity.

“It was a great effort. It’s a great hockey team over there,”
Jets coach Rick Bowness told the _Free Press_ outside his team’s
locker room at Ball Arena. “We want to be considered an elite team.
You gotta beat the teams ahead of you. We proved tonight that we can
play with anybody.”

Kyle Connor scored twice while Adam Lowry and Josh Morrissey had the
others for the visitors. Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck continued to
display his Vezina Trophy form as he stopped 32 of 34 shots.

“Right now hockey’s fun,” said Hellebuyck, who racked up his
250th career victory. “Less practice more games, the way we’re
playing. Just keep it rolling, less thinking and more just playing.”

Winnipeg is now 15-8-2, having won three straight games, and are
within two points of first-place Colorado, who are 16-8-2. The Jets
have now gone an incredible 15 straight games without surrendering
more than three goals. Their structure, discipline and attention to
defensive detail has become a strength.

Let’s break down how this four-game road trip got off to a flying
start in the Mile High City:

1) AN UNEXPECTED TURN OF EVENTS: It had been a tidy first period for
the Jets when, with 27 seconds remaining, they iced the puck with
their fourth line (Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Morgan Barron and David
Gustafsson on the ice). You could see the excitement on the Colorado
bench as their big guns (Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen, Jonathan
Drouin, Cale Makar and Devon Toews) hopped over the boards to take the
offensive zone draw.

Trouble was brewing for the visitors.

But not only did Gustafsson beat Rantanen cleanly in the faceoff dot,
the Jets calmly broke the puck out of their own end and got it deep
into the Avalanche zone where the speedy Jonsson-Fjallby forced a
turnover and fed a wide-open Lowry (who had just come on for
Gustafsson), who ripped a wicked wrister to the top corner with three
seconds left on the clock.

Lowry’s fifth of the year gave Winnipeg the kind of payoff that
often comes with sticking to your system, waiting for your opponent to
make a mistake and then pouncing.

“I think that’s huge. I thought the fourth line was great all
night,” Lowry said. “To come in up 1-0, it’s a different feeling
than when you battle hard and you’re not rewarded.”

2) DOES THIS STILL COUNT AS GOING “BANG BANG!?” Former Jets
broadcaster Dennis Beyak used to break out the phrase whenever the
club would score twice in rapid succession. So when Connor’s shot
found the back of the net just 32 seconds into the middle frame, you
wonder if this would qualify?

Winnipeg had technically just scored twice in 35 seconds, albeit with
an 18-minute intermission sandwiched in between. Most importantly,
they had a two-goal lead, with the top line of Connor, Nikolaj Ehlers
(who had the primary assist) and Mark Scheifele continuing their
strong play of late.

It was Connor’s team-leading 16th of the season, and his second in
as many games following a six-game drought.

3) WHO’S THE SIXTH DEFENCEMAN? On this night, it was Logan Stanley,
with Declan Chisholm and Nate Schmidt relegated to the press box.
Chisholm had played in two straight games, while Schmidt has now been
healthy scratched for three straight outings. Expect this
mini-rotation to continue.

After a fairly strong first period, Stanley got burned — badly —
by MacKinnon less than two minutes after Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead. The
six-foot-seven defender, who doesn’t have the best foot speed to
begin with, got walked by a streaking MacKinnon, who went in all alone
and roofed a shot past Hellebuyck.

MacKinnon can make even the best blue-liners in the league look
foolish at times, but that’s a play that someone in Stanley’s
position is likely going to wear, fair or not.

“Logan had a really solid game. Listen, he was at the end of a shift
and all of a sudden you’ve got Nate MacKinnon coming 100 miles an
hour. He’s going to do that to any defenceman in this league,”
said Bowness.

“It’s not just Logan Stanley, it’s any defenceman in this league
would get caught flat-footed. He’s an elite player with elite speed
and he took advantage of it. Good on him. He made a great play.”

4) BACK AND FORTH THEY WENT: To their credit, the Jets didn’t sag
after what could have been a momentum shift and kept coming,
eventually getting rewarded at 15:13 of the second period.

Morrissey found a seam through traffic and fired a perfect seeing-eye
shot that eluded Alexander Georgiev. It was the fifth of the year for
Winnipeg’s All-Star blue-liner, who now has 22 points in 25 games
after a career-high 76 in 78 games last year.

Back came the Avalanche, as MacKinnon made a great play to elude
Brenden Dillon then reached back to find teammate Joel Kiviranta, who
beat Hellebuyck high on a shot that officials initially didn’t
realize went in the net at 19:29. It was confirmed following video
review, and Winnipeg’s lead was down to 3-2.

“I think the second one is goaltender interference,” said
Hellebuyck of a play the Jets considering challenging, but ultimately
didn’t.

“The guy comes through my skate and i don’t think I ever let that
goal in if the guy doesn’t do that. But we might have taken it down.
I know I was pretty furious at the moment but I thought we played
pretty well other than that.”

5) PK WAS MORE THAN OK: Winnipeg’s penalty kill has been a problem
for much of the season, but they flipped the script on Thursday by
going a perfect 4-for-4 against a pretty potent Colorado power play.
That included 47 seconds of being down two skaters early in the third
period.

Hellebuyck gets plenty of credit with some terrific saves, but the
players in front of him made life miserable for the Avalanche by
routinely getting in shooting lanes, stepping in front of pucks and
swatting away any second and third chances.

“I think it’s something that we’ve been continuously working
on,” said Lowry.

“Earlier in the year we said numerous times, we feel like we’re a
foot off or we were close to getting back to where we want to be. To
be in that upper tier, where we think and where we expect (to be),
where we can be the difference in a game. Tonight you saw that we
didn’t really give up any Grade A chances (on the PK).”

Connor then sealed the deal with an empty-netter in the final minute
of play, ensuring there would be no comeback on this night. With 17
goals, only Brock Boeser (18) of the Vancouver Canucks has scored more
this season.

6) EXTRA, EXTRA: Bowness made a mid-game lineup tweak, moving Nino
Niederreiter to play with Cole Perfetti and Gabe Vilardi, and Alex
Iafallo to skate with Lowry and Mason Appleton. The lines then were
flipped back to normal for much of the third.

“The Cole line was in our zone all night. That’s the bottom
line,” said Bowness. “I think they had one shift in the o-zone and
the rest of the shifts in our zone. So I put Nino out there just to
give it a different look. It helped, obviously. That line, again, they
had a tough night. It’s as simple as that.”

Vlad Namestnikov missed a third straight game with a lower-body injury
but is getting closer to a return. He participated in most of the
morning skate and Bowness said the next test will be Saturday’s
practice in Anaheim. If he can get through that, playing Sunday
against the Ducks is an option.

The Jets flew to southern California following the game and will enjoy
a day away from the rink on Friday, with some golf in the forecast.

I only hope that when the Jets have a dip ( lose 3 in a row), the fans here stay positive. And leave Stanley alone. He is still a Jet.
The fans in here rarely stay positive, even when the Jets are winning.

If we again lose 3 in a row, you'll hear more whimpering and tears in here than in a grade 8 washroom without tampons.

He was definitely flat footed but let’s face it, it was Mac and he would blow by most of our guys.
I think that his days are over here. My spider sense tells me they are just showcasing him if these trade rumors are true.
I haven't seen any trade rumours re Stanley, unless I'm missing something?

Great game. Leave Stan behind in Denver but no complaints otherwise.
He looked horrible on Nate’s goal, but other than that he was solid.

Good win against a top team.

Need to figure out a way to get that second line going again. Vilardi is still getting up to speed but I have found Iafallo has been just awful lately.
Can we swap Morgan for Iaffalo’s spot? That would require some opposite wing play, but who cares.

Leafs are supposedly interested in him, among other teams

Brian La Rose and Bruce Garrioch have made rumblings the last few days. Grain on salt of course.

Goal scoring is not the only thing that matters. He is 41st in 5v5 points with 14.

Ehlers also has 12 points 5v5 in 80 less minutes, while having much better possession numbers.

KC is a very good goalscorer, but that is literally the only thing he does. Now, that is very important and we still need him as we don't have that many pure finishers on this team. But I stand by what I said.
KC has improved his back checking considerably while still scoring loads of goals. I don't know what you see when you watch a game.

I see an elite goalscorer that is very bad without the puck lol, I thought this was the consensus opinion?

Players don't have to be perfect, KC is a very valuable asset as he is, but he has never been good defensively and never been all that much of a playmaker. He is a goalscorer through and through.

Morgan is nowhere near the hockey player Iaffalo is. The problem with that line is a recovering Villardi. It will take several more games for him to get up to speed.

Aside from injuries, Nikolaj Ehlers is a superior hockey player to Kyle Connor by every measure...except for his individual goal scoring rate (over the last 3 seasons, Connor scores goals at a rate of 0.11 g/60 more than Ehlers - that's like half a David Gustafsson!)

Zone entries: Ehlers
Board battles: Ehlers
Puck control: Ehlers
Primary assists: Ehlers
Net penalties: Ehlers
Fancy stats: Ehlers
Cap hit: Ehlers
Defense: Ehlers
Not getting outscored on the ice: Ehlers

If only winning at hockey were simply a matter of scoring more goals than your opponents... :sarcasm:

I'd move KC instead of nik if it really came down to that but honestly at this point I'm not removing a legit top 6 guy from our roster

If anything I think 2 center is still the biggest problem and unless u moving out Schmidt pionk or demelo, not sure what the point is to making a move for rhd when we need to move one out 1st

This narrative that people here are negative is so tired. You guys should check out boards of other teams if you wanna see for comparison. Kings best team in the west and 11-0-0 on the road yet a third of their board is on suicide watch over PLD 's play and losing Brock Faber to Minny in the Fiala trade.
