I feel like I'm one of the only people not picking it up.

I may rent it in about a week or so from work to see how it is though.

At what point do you give up on an older car? I have an '03 Hyundai Sonata that I've had since my senior year of college. I love it - bought it new and we've driven 125,000+ miles together. I took it in for an oil change and tire rotation today at a new shop to me but they come with excellent reviews (have won local "Best of" Awards for several years running), so I don't doubt these guys are (mostly) honest. They're recommending about $1800 worth of repairs (alignment OR three new tires due to wear on three of the tires, front brakes, brake flush, transmission flush, air filter, a headlight restoration, and a new power steering reservoir) and I know a few others that could/should be done over time - new dashboard (there's some warping) and also a burned out foglight.

Meanwhile, I also have my mother's car that I inherited - it's an '07 Sonata with around 30,000 miles on it. It drives fine but I don't like it quite as much as mine. No moonroof (something I can give up) and the factory stereo is only an AM/FM/CD stereo - no cassettes, no aux jack, so no real way of playing MP3s short of wearing earbuds wherever I go. No matter what I need to figure out what to do with this car as we can't keep a car that's not being driven and the its tags are nearly expired as well.

So were you me, what would you do? Suck it up and put the repairs into the car you have that you love? Sell your car and switch to the newer car that you don't like quite as much? Sell both? I'm all ears and would love a sounding board here.

I'd sell/trade both and buy a car you want. I went through the same thing with my first car, and there comes a point where it's like a tshirt that you wore in high school... at some point you just have to give it a fond farewell and move on to something that fits your current life. The newer car sounds like it kinda sucks and will just make you unhappy. What you want is a 3rd option that you haven't found yet.

I'm also at that point with my car... it's a '97 Camry that can't be worth more than $2500, and the timing belt is due soon. The paint is also starting to let go on the spoiler. It's been a good car, but to do the timing belt and paint isn't worth the money at this point.

As for your situation, if it were me, I'd see how much of the work I could do myself before turning them loose on it. Some of the work you're describing is pretty easy to do yourself with an inkling of mechanical inclination (fog lights, air filter, headlight restoration), which would probably save you a couple hundred in labor. The tranny flush is more tedious than it is complicated, but it's doable (found that out after I dumped the wrong fluid in the reservoir...that's a mistake you only make once). Since the shop is new to you, I'd check the tire wear myself before having them replace them. Where did you take it?

Including the two-for-one trade?

I'm cheap and don't care much about what kind of car I drive, so I'd get rid of the car that will cost you $1800 and drive the 07. For a couple hundred bucks, you can probably get an aftermarket music system that will do what you want and you should easily be able to get another 130,000 miles (or more) on the 07.

EDIT: should have stated that my wife and I have two vehicles, one had 175,000 miles on it and the other is just approaching 100,000. Unless there is a major repair (replace the transmission, etc...) I'll drive them until they no longer go. Tires, brakes, filters, fluids are just part of the normal maint. you have to do occasionally. I thought about getting rid of the 1 vehicle at about 110,000 when it need a new timing belt, tires, breaks, etc...but glad I kept it.

I don't trust those sort of shops.

A little mechanical knowledge and you can fix most of those problems though.

You could try to package both cars on a trade in for one you want though.

Woah.

Cleveland ACTUALLY doesn't care about winning football games. A lot of people think that's a generational running back they just traded away for a 1st rounder.

Not to mention Brian Hoyer's apparently their starting QB now. They might actually be worse than the Jags now...

So let me get this right, Cleveland traded up to get Trent Richardson in last years draft, and now they've traded him and at best may get a middle first round pick back for him.

Unless there is something I'm missing, this doesn't seem like a well thought out plan. Guess maybe they're hoping for a top 3 pick.

It WOULD have been a mid-round pick, if the Colts just GAVE it to them. But now the Colts have Trent Richardson. I'd expect it to be in the 26-32 range.

Yes, as a Browns fan. Not happy. Not happy at all.

Richardson is the best RB we've had since Jim Brown. Just gave him up for a single (likely late) first rounder? Should have been minimum multiple picks at worst. But horrible decision to give up on him period.

No idea what they're trying to do. Keeping Weeden as the starting QB was bad enough heading into this season. Might as well go on a firesale and see how many picks they can get in the next draft at this point. But don't like selling cheap. At all.

Sad thing is while they lost the first two games, they at least were close games that came down to the wire. Nothing worth blowing a team up over.

Fantasy question:

Not going to tell you which team I am to keep it unbiased, who won this trade:

Charles
Bowe
Eifert

for

McFadden
Richardson
Fleener

In a vacuum, I'd take the first group. I'm generally low on McFadden and I like both Bowe and Charles, so even with a slight TE downgrade, I still like the first group. Although, depending on the rest of the team, I might take the 2 RBs over 1 of each RB/WR.

Should have clarified, Daryl Richardson, not Trent or other.

I almost asked but had to assume it was Trent for the deals to be even...definitely the first group then. Although I may be carrying my McFadden dislike a bit too far, I love his talent, just don't think he'll keep it up for that long before getting injured again.

McFadden is notorious for getting injured AND not scoring touchdowns. That first group is much better IMO.
