I guess that pretty much answers it with Lauer. Evidence must have been damning enough to the point that he couldn't deny it.

Lauer said that some of what has been said about him is untrue or mischaracterized, "but there is enough truth in these stories to make me feel embarrassed and ashamed." He did not specify which allegations were true or untrue.

"The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws," he said. "It's been humbling."

Based on some of what I read (granted, which is not substantiated), it sure sounds like a lot of people knew about Lauer and his reputation, but NBC didn't want to rock the revenue boat.

Yeah, always easy to be (or I should say make yourself appear to be) humble after it becomes public. I have a hard time believing that NBC didn't know what was going on with him either. As one person said, NBC protected the **** out of him.

It is, but equally disturbing is that they apparently install this feature for many/most? big-wigs. I get the desire for security, but it needn't come at the expense of someone walking their lazy ass over to the door and locking it themselves. Jesus...when I hear about shit like this it makes me want to bat back even harder against the "lazy millennial" narrative that these types tend to promote.

Except that they've come out and said many people in the office have those lock buttons for security purposes. Just not that many people were using it to sexual assault women.

I call BS on the blanket "security" justification for that damn button. Rockefeller Centre is a controlled building as is. building access, floor access, the works. no security needs that warrant being able to lock the door without walking 30 feet to the door and locking it yourself. it's a 'perk', nothing more. and it's worth questioning why that particular perk for those particular people.

Sorry, but if I'm a highly visible person working in a place like Rockefeller, I absolutely want an auto-lock button on my door. You have to be prepared for the craziest possible scenario in a job/location like that.

Also, AFAIK nothing about his misconduct has been connected in any way to that button. People are just taking that detail and running with it because it sounds creepy to put the two topics together.

sorry THH, but something about his misconduct has definitely been directly connected to the button. a story of a woman coming in, him locking the door telling her to unbutton her blouse, and then having sex with her until she passed out. she came to on his floor with her clothing removed and medical personnel standing around her.

His office was in a secluded space, and he had a button under his desk that allowed him to lock his door from the inside without getting up. This afforded him the assurance of privacy. It allowed him to welcome female employees and initiate inappropriate contact while knowing nobody could walk in on him, according to two women who were sexually harassed by Lauer.

So two women who claimed they were harassed by him specifically mentioned the button and his ability to lock the door without getting up.

.....that is quite the story...he had sex with her until she passed out...is this Lauer bragging or is the woman claiming she was drugged...or something else entirely different?

Hopefully it was consensual...even then it's still behavior that is typically "frowned upon" in the workplace.
