It’s fun to see all if the fans of other teams coming in to thank the Hawks.
What you don’t realize is that you effectively saw a flying unicorn last night and didn’t realize it.
The Hawks were in the game because they scored a shorty. They never score shorties. They give up about 1-2 shorty chances per game!
The Hawks won because they scored on the power play. The Hawks never score on the power play.
The Hawks won because Duncan Keith scored a goal. This was the 80th game of the season. This was his second goal. He got his first about 6 weeks ago. He just doesn’t score goals.
They won because Keith scored on the power play. He never does.
They won because Keith got a shot through from the point on the pp. He never does. It usually goes wide right by about 427’ or gets blocked resulting in a breakout the other way.
They won because Keith scored on a point shot from the right hand side. I don’t think
Keith has set up or taken a shot from the right point ever. Certainly not this season. Matter of fact, the last shot I can recall him taking from the right side of the ice was the follow up shot on the GWG in game 6 of 2015 Cup Finals.
So while it was an exhilarating win and an absolute nut punch to St Louis, it was incredibly improbably.
Loyola making the Final Four and a back up emergency goalie stopping 7 of 7 shots and getting the first star - both in the same week - are more likely to happen than Duncan Keith scoring a gwg on the pp with 8.5 secs left from the right point!
