Why would you be unhappy were resigning a Young, physical, big, Dman with a ton of unrealized potential? Would you rather trade him for a 3rd?

Depending on money and term this is nothing but a good thing.

I think you’d get more than a 3rd.

So what is the "win" for Canucks fans here? The most/least amount of money/years as possible?

among eight qualifying Canucks defensemen, Gudbranson is eighth in shot-attempts share (43.2%) and 5th in goal share (43.6%), ahead of only Pouliot, Del Zotto, and Edler. He's last of these eight, by a pretty substantial margin, in terms of his team's share of shots, scoring chances, unblocked shot attempts, and high-danger shot attempts. When you can re-sign the worst defenseman on a terrible team, you just gotta do it.

Saw one reporter, I think it was Jason Buroughs or however it's spelled, joke about the Canucks re-signing Gudbranson and deciding that leaves them room to move Chris Tanev. I doubt anyone's that big an idiot, but if they did that, well, it'd put a pretty big smile on my face.

^^^^^^This is the huge, huge problem with Benning's so-called scouting ability. He thinks established players are still like raw rookies who just got drafted. Here's a guy who's been in the NHL for years, done the same things the same way, then Benning looks at him and says: "Well y'know, if he becomes totally different in several areas he could be real good!" then spends stupid assets on him. Unrealized potential...what a joke.

Benning's doubling down on his failure. He's never going to recoup the cost of getting Gudbranson but rather than admitting he f***ed up and got hosed by Tallon, he's hanging on to his mistake, who he will soon overpay and probably furnish with an NTC.

Lmfao just when Canucks fans start to feel a little better about Benning.

No we weren't.

Daliwal is a very good source.

Yeah, he comes up when the Canucks are doing stuff all the time. Vancouver sports radio guy, very connected, and not to be That Guy, but re: the guy you responded to, his name isn't some dumb gibberish, he's like, Indian or Pakistani or something like that.

You can find better D in the AHL or Europe but sure why not double down on your mistake.

Seems like another player being overvalued because he's physical and a "canadian boy". The scary thing is that Benning isn't the only gm who has that mindset.

Ah, the inevitable homer post that is coated with bias.

At least this post will forever be available for us to read next season for amusement.
