Hmm, I was wondering why that wasn't more popular when I saw that Glenn Hall pic.

Awesome pictures again Robert Gordon Orr!! I never knew Bill White wore a toupee for a while!

I do do remember his having that areer ending back injury, and his hoping he could eventually return. "There is some nerve regeneration."

As he was on the payroll they named him coach! My how times have changed....

^^^ very nice.... and I like how you sequence the photo's from oldest to newer, in this case 65 or so through 06. Some real rarities in this batch that Ive not seen before & nothing like seeing them on your laptop or pc, really jump off the screen.

^^^ Good stuff!

The only one I'd seen before was the cake on a stick (and only saw that once before).

Yeah I'll say, awesome RGO!... Love the shot of Beliveau in the dressing room in front of the stick rack, the Bower action shots, Plante & Tretiak, the little guy in the Aces jersey and Red Kelly throwing a punch, who looks like he's really quite enjoying himself huh? Who knew? Psych job...... Just so you know how closely I'm lookin.... enjoying your comments & player I.D.'s as well..... Mike Walton up there (yes that is Mike) as a Leaf wore #16 not 14.... Love the shot of Subban as well.... real Dandy huh?

I'm sure more than just you and I have seen that Howe photo before, though it ain't one of top-10 most famous ones, the same goes for the Orr. But is arguably the best of all time and it's really hard to find ones of them you haven't seen before!

The Stan Jonathan punch and Phil Esposito against his bro' are amazing examples of action photography that surprisingly aren't famous. They made my day! Thanks.

^^^ Very interesting..... I have no memory of the Caps using white or off-white pants in their 1st season (more than old enough to have remembered).... and that picture of Hull above, the Jets jersey appears to have a satiny (sheen) like quality to the blue shoulder flashings & logo, something not seen in later versions of Winnipeg's uniforms that I recall. Quite like that... and note as well Hull's stick, appears "un-branded". No-name, yet he did use Northland's while with Chicago. Somethings up with that, some bit of trivia I'm unaware of. :squint:

The Capitals only wore the white pants for a few games before switching to blue. Apparently the white pants weren't too popular.
In regards to Hull's jersey, I believe the lighting may have caused that sheen look. I noticed the chicken wire above the boards that was in use instead of plexiglass. I think the picture may have been taken in the Cleveland Arena which didn't have plexiglass. The Crusaders didn't move into the modern Richfield Coliseum until 1974. During the first WHA season, teams wore their whites at home for half the season and their darks for the other half which explains why Hull is wearing white on the road in this picture.
Interesting that you noticed the "un-branded" stick used by Hull in that picture. Looking at some other pictures of him in Winnipeg's inaugural WHA season, I noticed the same thing in those pictures as well. In pictures from later seasons he is again using a Northland stick. Also during that first season, Hull was still wearing the gloves he used in Chicago and might not have made the switch until his second season in Winnipeg when he changed to the blue, red and white colors of the Jets.

The Tiger Williams photograph pisses me off, because it's his most famous one.

It belongs on another thread. Or else this thread may be near dead.

(Could someone post it on this thread, rather than another accessible "famous" one without be simply flipping the bird at the idea of this thread? Possibly, but in this case, I think not.)

(Could someone post it on this thread, rather than another accessible "famous" one without be simply flipping the bird at the idea of this thread? Possibly, but in this case, I think not.)

So you want that shot of Williams moved from this thread to the "Famous" photograph's thread? ... Because if thats what your requesting I'm afraid I'm not going to permit it, enable nor facilitate such a request VanIsle............ And would you like to know why Son?................................. Because Dave Williams is a Weeny & thats a Total Weeny Hot Dog move, one that has no place in hockey & certainly doesnt deserve to be placed alongside "classic famous photographs"... thats why. Not having the low life stank of that Showboats antics giving a bad case of the Cooties to Sylvanus, The Rocket, Gordie, Bobby, Jacques, Johnny, Guy, Wayne & Mario & everyone else over there however here.... in this thread of the rare, unusual, ignominious, strange & bizarre, no problem... no problem at all with that shot of Side Show Dave there gettin his Freak On.... grown man acting like a 3yr old.... but dont tell me its "classic". Its disgraceful is what it is. .... then as now... So, its here where such shots belong, and what makes this thread so interesting... one that will never die as you so incorrectly prognosticate in trying to sneak Dave Williams from here to there, spot amongst the greats, classic shots.... not on my watch Mister.

Nice try though. Never. No. This thread going strong long after you & I are dust. Carry on.

Ah, ok, well that would explain why I dont remember the Caps in white pants, short lived..... I didnt notice Hull's gloves but by Golly, your right. Chicago Black Hawks Property..... and that stick he's using, very suspicious. Note the red, white & blue cello-tape on the shaft there as well, and I know Northland never produced sticks with that color combination during that era. Odd looking piece of lumber. Maybe Bobby swiped what was left of his previous seasons stock of Northlands' from Chicago's dressing room on the way out the door (along with the gloves), then had them all planed down, removing all visible identifiers like a car or gun thief taking a metal grinder to serial numbers, then added the red, white & blue tape decals. Figured Wirtz likely to charge him with Theft and I wouldnt put it past him. Better safe than sorry. :naughty:
