This photo was posted about three weeks ago (# 929), although it's true that the injury ended Dawes NHL-career, it didn't end his hockey career, as he was active as a player until 1967.

Thanks RGO! I was not familiar with Bob Dawes until I saw this picture. Looking at his rather unremarkable NHL career, I can see why. Bearing in mind there were only 6 teams back then, I have to say he had a pretty good pro career though; if for nothing else than perseverance!

Okay... you've been on HfBoards for 7 years but that doesn't mean you've been on the History board for most of that time or read a lot of history books over that stretch. (I feel old at this moment.)
That said,... Thanks for the Dennis whomever pic. It's relevant and interesting in the historical sequence of the shot stance! He had just one significant year in the WHA (28 goals, 60 points in 80 games, the year of that pick):

Thanks to this I'm now going to spend the whole weekend going through my Dad's boxes of old Hockey News and reminiscing about hockey in the 70's :)

In the Montreal fight picture, I believe I can pick out then Quebec Premier Robert Bourassa and former Montreal Canadiens' PR director Camil DesRoches, among others.

Fred Shero took over as GM of the Rangers on June 2, 1978 and it wasn't long after that he made the decision to bring back the traditional uniforms for the 1978-79 season. Apparently he felt the same way you did. The uniforms introduced by previous Rangers GM John Ferguson would last be worn by the team during the preseason in 1978. Ferguson would later be hired as GM of the Winnipeg Jets on November 22, 1978 during the team's final season in the WHA. Unfortunately for us Jets fans, Ferguson would resurrect those same uniforms that he introduced to New York for 1976-77 and put the Jets logo on them when Winnipeg joined the NHL in 1979-80. Fortunately for the Rangers, they were only stuck with the Ferguson uniforms for 2 seasons whereas the Jets were stuck with them for 11 seasons. I was glad when the Jets finally ditched them in 1990.

Yes indeed. The picture below is from the 1978 preseason when the New York Rangers were in Winnipeg to play the Jets. Ulf Nilsson and Anders Hedberg of the Rangers are wearing the Ferguson designed uniforms. Those uniforms were last used during the preseason as the Rangers would switch back to their traditional uniforms for the start of the 1978-79 season. Bobby Hull of the Jets is wearing the uniform worn by the team while a member of the WHA. The next picture below that is from the following season when the Jets had joined the NHL for 1979-80 and Hull is wearing the Ferguson designed uniforms (which by coincidence is from a game against the Rangers).
