Ryder was 33 when the Devils signed him. Grabner turns 31 in October. But yes, I'd love to hear more about how much you know about aging curves.
Grabner has to play better. But we know he's capable of playing better, and the Devils are shooting 3.7% with him on the ice. That's bound to change.
Couple things about this.
1)We know he is not an assist guy.
2)When a guy is shooting at zero% it will be a drag on the his on ice shooting %. Just like I imagine when he was shooting at a high% with the rag's it buoyed his on ice shooting %. He was shooting at nearly 16% with the rags this year and his on ice shooting % was 8%. In general I think his teammates do not shoot at a high rate when he is on the ice.
If my math is right, with the Devils his team mates are shooting 4.6% when he is on the ice. With the Rag's his team mates were shooting 5% when he was on the ice.
Which was to be expected, he is an individual rush the puck up type of player. He just needs to start burying his chances. But it really is about his play, not so much about his team mates.
