Grabner was great his first few games here, but since the puck didn’t go in with him on the ice he’s horrible now.

Grabner will be fine, keep putting him out there.

Remember that this trade may only get worse if one of the following happen:
- Grabner gets re-signed by NJD,
- Rykov becomes top pair D-man for NYR,
- 2nd round pick becomes impactful NHLer.

The worst trade by Shero so far, it beats Mueller trade easily.

Grabner so far has provided nothing and if they want to him to provide nothing, while getting significant salary, that's beyond crazy. He's also on the wrong side of 30, he will probably decline even further. We've been there with Michael Ryder.

Because eight games of nothing means he'd provide nothing for three full years if they resign him.

I bet you were one of the guys who was complaining about trading for Vatanen for a bunch of games after it happened weren't you?

Ryder was 33 when the Devils signed him. Grabner turns 31 in October. But yes, I'd love to hear more about how much you know about aging curves.

Grabner has to play better. But we know he's capable of playing better, and the Devils are shooting 3.7% with him on the ice. That's bound to change.

You can check my posts history, there were zero complaints after Vatanen trade. The Vatanen trade was entirely different from this one because Shero thought about it carefully, took into consideration contracts, team needs, where we are etc. and it ended up being quite good. The only drawback of that was creating a logjam of RHD that forced Santini to Binghamton and Mueller to press-box but I can live with that.

The only two trades that I've criticized so far were Mueller trade (overpaying for waiver-eligible Sharks' #7-8D) and Grabner (paying a lot for the rental when we are in the middle of the rebuild).

so you're saying Shero did not think about this trade carefully and that we didn't need another winger?

alrighty.

At the time of the trade, I thought the Maroon trade was seemingly unnecessary, considering we just landed Grabner. I don't think its that unreasonable for someone to think that here.

Of course with the recent (hopefully short-term) injury situation, both trades seem like a good deal so far, despite Grabners zeros.

I feel like our team speed in general has not been shown off the rush recently, not just Grabner.

Yep, not since the Elias night game or the Pittsburgh game, sometime around then..... either they've changed their strategy a bit, or teams are playing defending our gameplan better.

I was all for the Trade and thought the cost was worth it. However, who knew we would be getting the Islander Grabner instead of the Ranger one? There are big games ahead and if he could start helping us win a few on this road trip all will be forgotten.

Yeah I'm assuming its a combination of having tape on us and the games getting tighter. I'm sure our young kids are missing that extra set of juice as well. Wood is finally starting to play like a runaway train again in spots so hopefully that helps.

I have a lot of patience so I'm not freaking about when it comes to Grabner. That being said, there really are times when I see him and think "wow, I haven't noticed him in like 20 minutes".

Michael Grabner: The Most Polarizing Devil since..................................Brian Rolston?

How did it go again... ? The cobwebs......need to be dusted

Not even close...there's only one most polarizing player in NJD history and he's the guy who ran to Russia five years ago.

Younger Islander Grabner was pretty good till his last couple years there. His career has been ridiculously up and down and it sucks we're apparently getting him in one of his lengthy down periods.

Couple things about this.

1)We know he is not an assist guy.
2)When a guy is shooting at zero% it will be a drag on the his on ice shooting %. Just like I imagine when he was shooting at a high% with the rag's it buoyed his on ice shooting %. He was shooting at nearly 16% with the rags this year and his on ice shooting % was 8%. In general I think his teammates do not shoot at a high rate when he is on the ice.

If my math is right, with the Devils his team mates are shooting 4.6% when he is on the ice. With the Rag's his team mates were shooting 5% when he was on the ice.

Which was to be expected, he is an individual rush the puck up type of player. He just needs to start burying his chances. But it really is about his play, not so much about his team mates.

the devils desperately needed a guy like maroon to feed behind the goal line for boardwalk.. seriously lacking that on this team.. he is really the only guy that can competently control the puck along the wall and generate offense from that position.. that's a huge asset in tight checking ( playoff) games.. he is exactly what the doctor ordered for this team... grabner will start potting a few.. just needs to break the ice.. one thing is true if this team does make the playoffs they will have certainly earned it because the whole season is the next 6 games.. if they can do .500 or better on this stint it will be a positive.. if they crap the bed we know the ending to this story.. hopefully the win last night and outplaying the jets the other day will give them a boost of confidence..

Is 8 games really a lengthy down period?
