If we do go that route (ala the Devils retaining Lindy Ruff last year but adding Andrew Brunette or even David Quinn adding Jacques Martin to his staff or Vigneault adding the aforementioned Ruff), who is a transformative assistant coach who would replace Mike Kelly, handle the X's and O's, run the PP and be in charge of the forwards? Any intriguing names? Dallas Eakins and Brad Larsen are underwhelming.

Guys like Sutter, Boudreau, Laviolette, Babcock and probably Tippett would likely not accept coming on as assistants.

Never once have I watched a professional hockey team and thought, man, these guys would be playing better if some old guy was yelling at them.

The pining for "kick ass" coaches is not something I will ever understand.

You know it’s the off season when… a thread about assistant coaches appears on the board!

The alternative is what we've gotten the last couple years. I'll take a militant-esque coach for a group trying to win a Cup over a guy that just says "Hey good luck, do your thing. Oh, that didn't work? Dang..maybe next year it will."

It's all well and good that they liked playing for him, but whatever the players cooked up themselves in this post-season did not work. They need a direction given to them to execute. They need someone drilling Xs and Os into their brains. The current game plan of hoping our stars just turn it on in any given game just hasn't worked here when it counts.

FWIW.....I know Ed was always concerned about his weight and health . It looks like Turk has dropped about 25 + pounds judging by a pic my sis sent me from the casino in Moncton NB where they met up with Turk in the cash out line late Thursday night . Turk and his wife were at the Shania Twain concert and at the casino later in the night when my sis & hubby had a pic taken with him . He looks great.....I have a pic and will share once I figure out that procedure but for now you'll just have to be content with the info . No need for any negative posts now...he is gone .
