Clifton was not even looking at Cousins, he did a reverse hit on the pressure he felt coming. He hit Cousin's head because Cousins was bent over. Don't you need to be looking to be targeting?
There may be a fine but there should not be a suspension.(whether or not the season is over)

It was a 2 minute penalty if anything. The fact that headshots have a 2 minute or a 5 minute penalty and they landed on 5 after review is ridiculous. Either all headshots are automatically 5 or that should be the 2.

Plus it is Cousins.

Looks like a pretty blatant shoulder to the head to me. Cousins so low but you can clearly see clifton aiming his shoulder right at him and leading with it too.

Bad spot for cousins because he goes for the poke check thinking clifton was going to play the puck, but clifton ignored the puck and put his shoulder into his face.

Nope, bad hit, but not with intent to be match penalty. Watch it again, Clifton focuses on the puck and feels the pressure from behind does a reverse hit without ever looking at Cousins. Unfortunate, yes, deliberate shot to the head, no. Accidental shot to the head yes. If Cousins catches up to the puck, it's shoulder to shoulder. If Clifton wanted to wreck him, he would have not focused on getting possession of the puck, which he did. Cousins concussion history add fuel to the fire. Plenty of guys get up from that hit.

At no point does clifton focus on the puck. He never even goes for the puck or touches it.

Idk if it was deliberate because cousins went to poke check which caused him to lower his head. But it’s probably still a hit to the head without the poke check attempt by cousins.

Not a reverse hit, he was leading with his shoulder lol

It was a happy little accident as Bob Ross would say

They have to run with Lauko Geekie Frederic as their third line .

it's the kind of hit that the panthers as an organization have built their whole game around.

Players initiate shoulder to shoulder contact all the time in that situation. Cousins apparently didn't realize Clifton was the other player, he will always play the body.

A shame if he misses time in Round 1 vs Toronto but better for the NHL, when Cousins is in the top 6 being enabled.

As we do here, I agree to disagree

The thing is at the very least it’s an interference on clifton. He made no effort to play the puck

Though technically not a trade, best center for center swap since Andre Savard for Max McNab just edging out the Tommy Fergus for Billy Derlago deal.
Max was Peter's dad and the Caps GM for a while.

Same here, I remember talking with another Bruins fan before that series and I told him the Bruins would win and it won't take as long as most people think. Rask played the best I had ever seen from him in that series. Too bad we did not beat Chicago, but they had a great team and the B's were really banged up in the finals.
Clode did a great coaching job in that series. He played Bergeron against Crosby, but played Chara and Seids against Malkin, rather than playing his top 5-man unit against one of their top lines.

Good win but same issues with the powerplay. Tons of missed passes as well. Sloppy game but a win is a win
mcavoy has to come off the power play.
the need marshy on left side and pasta on right side. i like when marshy has space to rip that wrister.
and get gryz out of there.

thats a good hit to me on a 50/50 puck battle. cousins just put hinself in a bad spot going low to reach for the puck instead of body contact.

Peter McNab?

Peter's nickname was Max or Maxy after his Dad. And Peter played his college hockey at this year's NCAA champ Denver U.

Cousins got what he deserved.
The NHL won't put up with that crap this
year IMO especially since the Panthers aren't
playing the B's and if they're playing the Leafs it won't be
tolerated.
The foolishness that the Panthers displayed to the league and the
fact that they didn't buckle down on them doing this
(last playoffs) against the B's is very telling IMHO.
It was also a little weird in this day and age that a major sports league
put up with a player bad mouthing another players wife/family would be tolerated to such an extent. IMO there's taunting and then there's trash talking about IIRC Nosek's wife, especially not on national television etc.
A lot of lines got crossed as usual there, and the officials were pitiful in dealing with it. It was also pitiful that there was no pushback or payback from the Bruins. In 2011 it would've been all out war.
Not sure if they did anywhere near the same shit against Toronto as they
did to beat the Bruins but they did enough IIRC, since it doesn't take nearly as
much to intimidate Toronto.
Toronto has added some beef to their lineup since last year so hopefully
it'll be an equally vicious response when the Panthers start their crap.
Not that I'm worried about the Leafs, but if they can both sustain damage,
and if the B's are the second round opponent to one of them (reaching here)
it could help us.
