If Yzerman isn't careful the Wings could easily end up like them. Stuck drafting 6-12, get a few good players, lose some to FA and trade the rest, wash rinse repeat.

Guys will try to slow down a bit to get the icing but that was egregious

Typically if the D just completely stops skating they wave it off. Had the D skated at a normal pace, he beats the puck to the red line. So it shouldn't be icing.

Sure, most teams end up falling short of Cup contention. We're much earlier in our life cycle than Calgary though.
