Purcell really fell off a cliff last year, his contract was also significantly more expensive at 4.5M than any of our guys.

Zubrus we might not get too much for, admittedly.

But Brunner and Ryder still hold some value i'm certain, they're cheap, they have one year remaining, and Brunner is still pretty young as well. Those two are significantly better players than Purcell at this stage.

If Vrbata signs here, Cory just have to resign here. We have a great team(on paper).

I'll be sad if they get rid of Brunner. I'd trade Ryder if we get Vrbata and go out with something like this

Camm-Zajac-Jagr
Henrique-Elias-Vrbata
Clowe-Zubrus/Josefson-Brunner
Ruutu-Josefson/Gio-Havlat
Bernier

And then Havlat gets the bump to the third line when Clowe gets inevitably injured.

That's even cheaper than i thought, he's obviously looking to get some term. At that price i'd happily pony up 4 or maybe even 5 years, what's the worst that can happen in the last year or two of that deal, the cap is inflating so much that four years from now that kind of money is going to be typical for third liners most likely. If he regresses that much (unlikely) we can just buy out the final year, absolutely no reason not to be in for him providing he wants to come here and those demands are accurate.

That lineup would be awesome and I think we'd see the best of Brunner. Assuming Pete can get over the whole lefties on left and righties on right, I'd love to see that lineup.

I don't really think it's about the cap. We'd have 15 forwards if we signed Vrbata so someone or two has to go. Brunner is not a 4th line player.

I would not be shocked if we have an offer sitting on Vrbrata's agent's desk. I too am kind of crazy curious to see what Lou does if we somehow signed him AND Carter.
