I like this deal. It may not be as immediate as I would like as Saarela signed next year with a team in Finland but it definitely helps the future and Eric could always sign back. I feel like he genuinely does like it here

I think the main sticking point is how highly one values Saarela. He has played very well for a recent 3rd round pick just looking at the numbers and what I saw at the WJC. Don't know much about him otherwise.

I'm confident the Canes can find some good players at the end of the 2nd. Overall I'm satisfied.

I know I've been hard on Eric these last couple of years, but there is no doubt when he was on he was fun to watch. It's a shame he never could duplicate 2006. Now we only have Cam Ward on our roster from that team. :(

Someone convince me that this is a good trade for us, because right now I'm not feeling it.

I'm okay with the return since it's likely the Rags were the only team Francis was able to work with. Crazy that we have 6 picks in the first 90 and still have a couple guys that could return even more.

I wouldn't mind seeing him come back though if we can sign him to a much smaller deal if the Rangers can't get him signed somehow.

Saarela isn't Aho good at the moment but he has been great this season and was highly touted prospect couple of years ago.

I was hoping for a better prospect or young roster player plus a pick, but I think GMRF's hands were tied a little here with it looking like he'd only waive for NYR. The extra 2nd and our recent successes in picking 2rd gems evens out those concerns. Saarela looks like a pretty decent prospect from my 20mins of googling, so I can live with the trade. We have like 4 picks now in the first 60 in the draft so that's pretty exciting.
