Marty Biron has always believed it would be a deadline deal which would allow almost any team the opportunity cap wise to acquire him. Especially now that the 2021 draft has passed. Zero motivation. Let's see if Jack shows up at camp.

Wouldn’t it sense that Jack gets his needed neck surgery when camp is starting? Then he can be back playing (hopefully) after Christmas and be showcased before the TDL.

Any team could acquire him for that playoff run, but they'd face the same offseason cap questions as if they went for it now.

He could move at the deadline, but I don't see any particular advantage for teams to do it then. Five years left on this deal. Not going to change teams' approach that much if it's four and a half.

I don't believe there will be a surgery period.

Don't think he's likely to need surgery. Rehab is supposed to fix this issue in most athletes, it just takes longer. If he was going for surgery, it would've made a tiny bit of (risky) sense if he did it immediately and tried to come back last year. Now? For a Christmas return? Just let the body heal and come back with full mobility in your spine.

Not a doctor and not in touch with his, but that's just my guess based on what we've read.

Advantage for the Sabres is showcasing Jack. Teams still get 5 playoffs with him and they may have LTIR by then and or UFA's falling off next year.
