How does Chevy continue to do this?!

If/when Ehlers cracks 75-85 points, which could likely be this year, this contract is an ABSOLUTE steal. Even if he just continues the production he put up last year, damn good contract.

It's time to lay to rest the noxious meme of the 'Winnipeg Tax'. In it's place I nominate the 'Winnipeg Discount'.

I still look back and count our lucky stars we got Ehlers at 9th overall when the likes of Fleury, Virtanen, Dal Colle and even Bennett and Reinhart all went ahead of him. (I wanted Dal Colle that year :().

The score told me it is 42 million x 6 years at first, which I wasn't that excited about but seemed like a fair deal. 42 mill x 7 years is such a steal! Wow what a deal, what a player.

Lots of talk on the main boards about how this sets mark for Nylander's contract. (I know, Leafs fans posting about their players in a Jets player signing thread. Shocking.)

If Nylander ends up signing for $6,000,001 per year I'm wallpapering the main boards about the Toronto Tax.

I'll second that. It's clear that players who want to be here will stay for a very team friendly price. Not that the bolded is directed at anyone in particular.

Great signing. I agree that this does bode well for a future Laine contract, not as much on the money side but on the personal one.

They obviously used the Pastrnak contract ($6.67M x 6) as the basis for the deal. It also didn't hurt to have our PPG center signed for $6.125M. They made a big bet on Scheifele after just 1/2 season of huge production and it paid off and now the same with Ehlers.

I expect the cap to make a massive jump this year, with the USD a new expansion team and more CDN playoff teams. Deal looks good today but should look insanely good this time next year.

great signing. Ehlers could easily be a point per game player the next 6 years playing with Laine. He is a potential allstar

Are there backdoor deals happening here? Like hiring Ehlers’ dad as a scout for crazy money? Or invest in ABC company with a guarantee to double your money? Or get your mortgage through TNSE for 0%? Seriously. Would this be against league rules.

Chevy has lost his mind. Ehlers is not worth $42 million per season.

Edit: MSM on Twitter said $42 million per.

it's pretty crazy.
are...are the Jets' players giving back a little here, a little there in order to anti-Chicago the team?

This is outstanding news. And another great signing by Chevy. He has his detractors but he has become a damn good negotiator.
