Didn't watch much hockey outside the Pacific last year- how was he last year. Looked like he played top 4 minutes, but his scoring fell off a cliff. Has age caught up with him, or was the drop not indicative of his play?

Bit of everything. Age has certainly taken its toll, but the whole team was bad last year; combine that with Edler being forced to play too much due to poor defensive depth.

If a strong team can bring him in for relatively cheap to play on their bottom pair, they'll be very happy with what they get.

He played OK. The entire team was pretty trash but the offense finally ran dry and he's been slowing down. He'd make for a good #5 guy that can jump into the top 4 and not look horribly out of place for stretches. The only caveat was earlier in his career, he'd make some boneheaded decisions...not like a gaffe where he'd whiff but just the wrong play at the wrong time. That's kind of gone away in recent years.

He's likely done as a top-4 on a contender. Has lost a step in all aspects of the game.

He'd probably look great on the bottom-pair of a contender and can jump up when there are injuries.

Perhaps the Jets? He played in Manitoba in the minors.

He needs to walk.. had a real good season but he's just that guy that seems to always get hurt... would hate to see Nucks get handcuffed signing him again

Time to move on

I wonder if he'll pull a similar stunt as Keith (or Hamonic), and try and stay in the Western Canada/Pacific NW. SEA will likely be a full on defence, but I could see each of EDM, WIN, and CAL (if they lose Gio) all looking into signing him.

Deserves to cup chase.

Will be hilarious witnessing Vancouver try and replace his minutes. For some reason people think Schmidt was better than him this season LOL.

At this point Edler is an NHL defenseman. He is not good, he is not bad, he just is.

Had it not been for those back injuries I honestly believe he could have been in contention for the Norris, he put up points, hit like a truck, and did everything above average.

Add to him the ever growing list of one year stop gaps for Ottawa to look at for the left side.

Might be a foot fit. Good size, good veteran presence, good leader, playoff experience, wont ask for a multi-year deal, not too far removed from decent production. Bad fit last year could ahve depressed his production.

He's old, and slow, but still strong and smart positionally and his long reach helps out. Edler was never a puck rushing defensemen, his points mostly came from taking shots from the blueline on the powerplay. Therefor his point total drop came more from the fact Quinn Hughes plays 1:57 as the lone defensemen of every powerplay, and Myers and Schmidt were also used ahead of him offensively.

He'll make a very good #5 on a team with some actual defensive depth.

I really hope we find a way to retain Edler. He certainly isn't the top pairing stalwart that he once was, but he's still an experienced top 4 defenseman that can munch minutes when required to do so.
