Nick Jensen had to wait until he was 26 even after looking good during the preseason. Now he looks like a top 2 Dman (With the D the wings are currently dressing.)
Give McIlrath 5 games and see if he can adjust to the speed, he can't be any worse than #55.

This x100.

Why is Detroit not calling this kid up to get a look at him at him in the show before he becomes a UFA? The season is now mathematically over, but it's been 'over' for a while now. Detroit's defense is already pretty underwhelming and how that the season is officially over, I don't understand why he hasn't been called up yet.

Because they already know how slow he is.

Detroit is looking at McIlrath in Grand Rapids. He has to get use to the Wings system and since Florida had him in Springfield in the AHL at the time of the trade, and the Griffins play a similar way the Wings do (except the PP) and that the Griffins will be in the AHL playoffs and the Wings will not make the Stanley Cup playoffs, McIlrath will get a good extended look in GR to see what he has. He has been doing well in GR the last few games and in an interview recently, he is finally settling in with the team. The Wings brass will all be here when the Wings regular season is done and they will be watching all the Wings prospects in GR as our playoffs will begin a week later.

This is McIlrath 3 NHL/AHL team in one season, so each NHL/AHL team that he has been on, has a system different from the other, so as a player it takes time to adjust from one system from another. Hoping that the Griffins will make a long run in the playoffs, it will benefit him and the Wings to determine if he deserves a chance to be in the Wings organization for the 17-18 the longer the Griffins keep on playing.

How is this not obvious? He hasn't been called up because he has no future in the NHL. He plays a dinosaur style of game. Twenty-five years ago, he'd be the second coming of Adam Foote. Now? He's like a lesser Robyn Regher (if this were 2001). Defenseman who have played his game in the NHL for 5-15 years are struggling to stay put - you think a rookie who hasn't shown a lick of brilliance (at least consistently) is going to stick around? Someone like DM has no future in this league, sans being the primary call-up for a shallow team for a long-term injury on defense. His best hope is ending up in the top 6 of Vegas' squad and being paired with a hyper-mobile defenseman who can skate-out his directions on the fly with ease.
