Kid's an AHL defenseman, nothing more. I like the kid. he defends teammates but he's not that good

But not at the expense of losing somebody who is simply much better. Again, if we're talking how to clear cap, agreed Staal needs to go. From the stand point of moving Staal, and shifting players around just so Dylan can play? Absolutely not.

we agree to disagree --- esp taking into account potential and that this is Staal 2016 and not 2010 ---, and I am open to revisit this if and when there is something new to consider. Peace out.

So for the OP about value of,
Is he Eric Cairns ?
Will he be Robyn Regehr ?

more than just a put up your dukes guy
can actually play solid clear the crease w/great checks d
the issues are
1) AV does not consider him a fit, which is wrong AV is an idiot beyond x's and o's; also AV is wrong b'cause he can be paired w/complementary skater/playmaker

2) AV plays favorites, and there is no way Girardi should be ahead of him.

as to Reghr and how high is his ceiling, not sure, but he is not chooped liver now and will not be tom.

McIlrath is a good bottom pairing D man who can beat the hell out of anybody.
Id rather keep him.
AV has no use for him mainly because of his "high road" mentality.

He's redundant on the right side of our defense. Even the fighting is redundant.

He's just not needed for the Rangers.

The fans just want something to complain about, so this is what they choose to complain about, even though there's not really a logical case. AV's not benching Buchnevich, Vesey, Skjei, he's benching a player who likely won't be more than a bottom pairing defenseman.

AV didn't have a good season last season, but this is not a big issue. McIlrath doesn't really deserve to play. When you have 8D, trading someone isn't always a bad idea.

Pretty sure this kid topps out where he is right now: Bottom pairing D on a weak D roster.

for the love of God let AV not be Rangers coach anymore before he ruins McIlrath's career!

if your gonna go to the Big Guy and seek Divine Intervention, don't go half assed. Full assed all the way:laugh:

It'll never happen in time.

Also I disagree with the poster above - he could be a decent #4 paired with an offensive guy. He looked really good paired with Yandle last year.

McIlrath is just fine...when he's in the lineup regularly. The largest sample size of his play that we have is last year, where he played 30+ games and was part of our best D pairing with Yandle. Yeah yeah, it's Keith Yandle, but McIlrath played much better with Yandle than Boyle or Klein did.

I just don't understand the logic of a team that is in desperate need of RD, wasting the talent of a 24 year old RD who we drafted 10th overall, who actually showed last season that he can perform reasonably well when given a bit of slack. We let Brady Skjei get playing time and make mistakes in order to ultimately grow, why not give McIlrath the same opportunity, considering we have no other competent bottom-pairing RD and he fills a position of need for us? It's just so stupid, regardless of what you think of McIlrath's potential.

For future reference, when people call you out for being a poster who has an anti-Rangers bias, it is because of posts like this, where you clearly demonstrate that you have no idea what you are talking about. McIlrath is fine with the puck on his stick. He's actually one of the calmer players on the team and excels at controlled exits out of the zone.

As for this "longer leash" that you think he "hung himself" with, what exactly are you referring to? He only got ONE extended run of games last season. It was due to injury. During that run of games, he was part of what was statistically our best pairing of the season. Even though that pair was playing amazingly well, AV still benched McIlrath in favor of Girardi with his busted kneecap. After that, AV only put McIlrath in for a game here and a game there (including one particularly idiotic game where he tried to play McIlrath as a winger). AV only played McIlrath in one of our five playoff games. It's the one game the Rangers actually won.

He'll never be a top pairing guy, but the second he gets away from AV and onto a team with a coach who will actually reward play rather than "warrior" reputations, he will very likely show himself to be what he was last season when given a chance--a very capable 2nd pairing guy who can cover for a more offensive partner and fire bombs from the point.

For previous examples of AV totally ****ing up his judgement on defensemen, see Michael Del Zotto, Anton Stralman, and Keith Yandle.

McIlrath & Paajarvi clear

Maybe you will take my "trolling" a little more objectively now instead of rushing to just label me an anti-ranger poster because it isnt a glowing review. 29 other teams just said "no thanks"

Sad that Vigneault would rather play Holden, who is hot garbage 20+ minutes a night than Clendening or McIlrath, who have actually been good for us.

Then again, this is the same moron who kept spoon-feeding minutes to Tanner Glass when every stat out there shows that he was the worst player in the NHL for a long time.
