Sens fans for the most part can be rightfully disappointed in how he played for the team. By his own admission he said he needs to work harder.
Him not being great last year and playing extremely well this year are not mutually excusive. Both can be true.
Maybe he said he has to work harder and got lazy on it because he didn't want to say he didn't mesh will with his rookie center and Drake Batherson and put it solely on himself.

I get why he played with those players, but talented players elevate other talented players.

And maybe it was because he wasn't super stoked on playing on Canada, but didn't want to draw the ire of an entire Country. End of the day he underperformed, and watching everything go down the way it has is rightfully frustrating for Sens fans.

There’s no way to ignore what the man is doing in Detroit. 8 goals and 4 assists (6 games) already? Nobody predicted that.

Just to pour more salt into the wound, the Bruins have started the season on fire too. Meaning that 1st Round pick isn’t looking so good either. Chances are, one of the two teams continues playing well this season, and as the pick (from the trade) is the worst of the two, we’re likely looking at a 22-30 type pick. Generally a 4-5 year development type player.

So we probably won’t be able to judge the entire trade, until after Debrincat’s contract (he just signed) expires.

Are you saying it's bad to trade away a prime 40g 1st line player for a glorified 3rd liner and a 1st? Summer of Dorion 2.0.

Sens still look very capable, but man what could have been. The Norris injury last year has so many ripple effects.
Most pro athletes give 100 percent regardless of circumstances especially in a contract year. DBC isn't one of those guys. He's happy now but who knows what will set him off to give less than full effort like he did in Ottawa.

Man that guy scored 66 ots for you last season having a center that had slightly less than half of that. That's a good season.
