Y'all kill me. There is literally no answer for this year. We're being gifted a one year answer and y'all are like "this won't help".

We had literally no possible other option this year and this just fell from heaven!

Fair enough.

Oh there are some stinky takes in here, lol.

Krejci won't move the needle? Lol do you know who our CURRENT 2C is? Krejci is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better, specially when put on the PP. Flanking him with Pastrnak and Hall for a whole season he's going to get 70+ points. Lol won't move the needle.

Guys he's 36, he's not 40. One last hurrah is amazing news. It's what most of us were hoping for.
If together Hall - Krejci - Pastrnak will be a very good line this coming season.

What's the point? They're not gonna win it all with him and Bergeron there for 1 more year. Bruins need to start thinking about the future, their pipeline is completely dry.
This is a trope that people often don’t grasp the levity of.

The Bruins were firmly a playoff team last season. 51 wins (tied with TB) 107 points.

That’s without Krejci, and not losing virtually anyone. Yes a few key guys will miss a little time to start the season, but regardless…

For the Bruins to go from a 107 point team and decide “oh we need to rebuild, we have to restock the prospect pool” they would have to essentially tell Bergeron and Krejci that they are not going To bring them back (no added value to the team doing so, you don’t get picks for telling your own players no thank you just retire)

You’d have to trade several of Marchand, McAvoy, Lindholm, Pastrnak, Hall and Coyle, you’d have to hope your Young goalie Swayman whom you have tabbed as the future, has a bad year, thus realistically regressing, and you essentially either replace all or most of those players with depth pieces so that you can let Don Sweeney draft your future…

No Chance.

You bring your Star Center back (Bergeron), your middle 6 Center back (Krejci) and you see how things go. If things go south for some reason then you sell at the deadline

But to decide to go rebuild right now? At this point?

No Chance

These negotiations that have been currently on going to bring David Krejci back to bean-town have been taking an awfully long time.

Surprised we haven't seen the Bergeron contract finalized yet. How hard can a one year deal be to get done for a player they desperately need?

They need to sign Zacha, Bergy, and (maybe) Krejci with 2.5m of cap space. Need to move out salary first.

Bruins submitted a contract to the league last week but had to rescind it after a team they had agreed to make a trade with for cap relief backed out at the last minute. Rumor has it that it was Krejci's.

Zacha's agent said a deal is nearly done with Boston but there were a lot of moving parts that had to happen first.

All signs point to a Bergeron deal is also in the same sort of limbo.

Where did you hear about the deal that was rescinded?

Not doubting you, just didn't hear that reported anywhere else.

No idea how they are fitting Krejci and Bergeron in. They have ~2 million in cap space.

2 of Haula, Reilly, Nosek, or Smith will have to go. And even then it'll be tight if both Bergeron and Krejci agree to team friendly deals.

Would Bergeron and Krejci take a million each a la Spezza/Thornton over the past few years?

Boston needs to make a cap move 1st'
They don't "need" to do it first. They can sign everyone now if they want.

They can sign all of them now. They are allowed to to 8m over the cap this summer. Any moves they have to make now can be made any time in the next month and a half.

I'm guessing he takes something like 3M. Can't see him going much lower than that considering he's still their 1C and a very productive player.

Can't Boston just sign them to tryout contracts, bring them to training camp, and then sign both on day 1 of the season when players go on LTIR?

Given Krejci (?) and Bergy's contracts will likely have high bonuses, I would think it's advantageous to wait and see how much cap they can realistically move out first so they can minimize the rollover next year.

Sure but with Krejci and Bergeron not a risk to go sign elsewhere, why put yourself behind the 8-ball with a roster that isn't cap compliant?

I mean I understand that but I would bet/guess they have a pretty good understanding on where they sit with Krejci& Bergeron and would prefer to move cap before making it official

They are trying to hold on for dear life to try and make some miraculous final run or something. Nope. They are basically the Dallas Stars of the East. Their core players are either aging or past their prime. It's over and they need to accept it. Trade away the core for picks and prospects etc and blow it up. No one is changing my mind.🤷‍♀️

This isn't the NBA where if you aren't one of the Top 5 teams in the league, you have 0 chance of winning and should tank. To many people are saying Calgary and Boston. should all throw away their season just because they'll be longshots to win a Cup.

Listen, if you're gonna suck anyways, suck hard and good luck in the lottery.

But If you're even projected to be an 8th seed, go for it. We've seen lots of bad on paper teams, teams that limped into the playoffs, teams that that had bad regular seasons make deep runs. Look at the 16-17 Sens. Terrible team on paper, had bad numbers all through the regular season but they drew an injured Bruins squad, a Rangers team in the waning days of their contending window and then drew a Pens team that took out the first and fourth overall teams in the league for them.

If I'm a Bruins fan, I'd rather do a tank in a year where nobody is actively trying to tank even if it's a weaker draft class. Next year's tank bowl is already shaping up to be super competitive considering how Chicago is doing it.
